Reports reaching Fidelis Chidi blog  from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital reveal that the Shehu of Dikwa, Alhaji Abba Tor Shehu Masta II has relocated from his domain for fear of Boko Haram attack. The Police Divisional Officer in the area and hundreds of residents have equally fled their homes over fear that the Islamic Militants, Boko Haram may attack the local government soon.
A security operative, who did not want his name in the print told DailyPost on Friday, that, after attacking Ngamboru Ngala local government, where they hoisted their flags, the Boko Haram insurgents were seen last week along Marte, Dikwa road, numbering over a thousand, with 7 armored personnel carrier, APC, convoy of Hilux Vans and hundreds of motorcycles.
According to the security official, sighting the insurgents along that road and the incident in Ngamboru Ngala triggered the mass exodus of residents of Dikwa.
He said, ” As we speak, the Shehu of Dikwa, the DPO as well as other residents of the area are fleeing. We too had to leave. The situation is getting bad everyday. Nobody wants to lose his life for leaders who do not care about their people.”
Also speaking, a resident of Maiduguri, Malam AJI Abdullahi said, his brother who resides in Dikwa is currently in his house with his family.
According to him, “I have lost hope of living with this situation. How can people be living in perpetual fear. When you are outside, the stories you hear and what you see everyday is scary. We were at the specialists and we saw some victims, the situation gives no hope for tomorrow and our leaders are not showing remorse. It is like they are enjoying what is happening.
” The unfortunate thing is that, those who are living outside Maiduguri do not seem to understand the situation here. The rich people are carrying their families out of the state leaving the poor to their fate, and these Boko Haram members, when they come, they would not spare even the poor. In fact, I don’t know why this is happening. Wallahi, I have lost hope of living. We are just waiting for either of them (government or Boko Haram) because for all indication, the government is not ready to fight this war” He said.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jibrin told newsmen that as far as the police was concerned, they can not interfere in the decision of residents to either remain in their homes or to flee.
“This is a personal decision. Anyone can decide out of fear to flee his home, but our DPO and our men are on ground in Dikwa; they did not leave or flee to anywhere.” He said.
