Thank God..Boy attacked by dogs in stable condition – LASUTH

Omonigho with his father on Thursday
Thank God for the good news
The management of the Lagos State University Teaching, Hospital, Ikeja has denied allegations of abandoning four-year-old Omonigho Abraham, who was attacked by two dogs.
However, in a swift reaction, Omonigho’s father, Odia, argued that the hospital authorities were lying as the doctors had neglected his son until PUNCH Metro’s report was published.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Wale Oke, said the victim was going through a healing process which should not be misconstrued by his relatives that his condition was deteriorating.
PUNCH Metro had reported on Thursday that Omonigho’s father, Mr. Odia, had expressed anxiety over his son’s condition.
Odia had said Omonigho’s head was giving off an offensive odour, because he had been abandoned by the medical personnel in LASUTH for two weeks.
He had also alleged that the hospital was still asking him to buy drugs, which forced him into seeking support from members of the public.
But Oke said Omonigho had not been abandoned and his condition was stable.
He said, “The boy was brought here about 34 days ago. He had been bitten by dogs. He had sustained severe injuries to his scalp.
“By the time he was brought here, we saw the injury was extensive and that he had some dead tissues. Because of the extent of the damage, we had to stop the bleeding, remove the dead tissues and administer antibiotics to the boy for the healing process to begin. It is after this (granulation), that you can develop a plan to cover the scalp.”
The CMD added that the odour Omonigho’s father was referring to was not as a result of decay but due to the chemical composition of Omonigho’s skull which had been blown open during the attack.
He added that he had not seen any application for a medical report of the boy’s condition.
He said, “The governor instructed the Ministry of Health to take over his case and subsequently, all money spent was refunded, the boy has had two surgeries, he’s been on admission, he’s eating, his wounds have been dressed and the hospital has not asked him to pay a dime.
“Mr Odia said doctors have not been coming to attend to his boy, whereas he’s not always with the boy in the hospital. He’s left many times and his wife has been the one to stand in for him. Doctors make entries every time. There is no way you will come to LASUTH with that kind of injury without getting attention.”
Oke accused Omonigho’s father of taking advantage of his son’s condition to solicit funds. He, however, maintained that Governor Babatunde Fashola had intervened in the matter.
Odia, however, marvelled at the hospital management’s explanation, insisting Omonigho had been abandoned.
He said the hospital management had been rattled by publications on the health condition of his child and was making desperate efforts to save face.
He said, “They should stop saying that they didn’t abandon my son for two weeks. It keeps irritating me. For those two weeks that the boy was here, the consultant who I know as the doctor, never showed up. It was the student doctors that came here.
“I spend most of my time here. The students would come, write their report and leave. I would ask them, ‘my son’s drugs are finished, can you write a prescription for me? And they would reply, ‘wait for the professor.’ I asked them when the professor would be coming, and they wouldn’t answer me.
“If everybody said I should wait for professor, at least he should show up once to recommend drugs to us, which had finished. Last week, I was fed up and carried my son. I told my wife I was getting mad because my son was not getting better.
“I later learnt my wife, who had earlier noticed the boy’s condition, had told the nurse not to let me know because I wouldn’t be able to bear it. I later saw his head being opened one morning and broke down into tears.”

Ben Murray-Bruce (Silver Bird man) is running for senate

Murray-Bruce pledges to eradicate mass poverty if elected Senator

ben murray-bruce
Former Director-General, Nigerian Television Authority and Chairman of Silverbird Group, Mr Ben Murray-Bruce, has promised to work towards the eradication of poverty if elected senator in 2015.
Murray-Bruce has expressed interest in running for Bayelsa East Senatorial seat under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa on Thursday that his desire was to eradicate mass poverty in Nigeria as a lawmaker, using the tool of legislative advocacy.
Murray-Bruce, who hails from Akassa in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa, said that he would deploy creative legislative skills and strategy to fight the alarming rate of poverty in the country.
“I am running for the Senate because I am interested in the laws of our land. I am interested in making changes.
“I am interested in being positive, I am not interested in business as usual, a lot of things have gone wrong in our nation.
“A lot of it could be traced to the chamber I want to be a part of.
“And if we fix the problem, we’ve fixed Nigeria’s problems. One of the biggest issue for me as a businessman, as a politician, is the issue of poverty.
“I have always been concerned about poverty of the masses.
”I have always been concerned about women who are not being protected, children who are being raped, babies who are being raped, men who are paedophiles and do not face the law.
“A society where there is no order, we must bring order to our society. There are too many poor people living under the bridge.
“Nigeria is too rich for people to be too poor; Nigeria is too poor for the super upper class to be so rich.
“That has to stop. If they pay their taxes, an individual will not have three private jets.
“If they pay their taxes, the poor man on the street will have a chance to make a living.
“We are here to make laws. You may consider this radical, you may consider it unorthodox, this society will explode and implode, unless politicians start thinking rationally.”
He said he had commenced working on 10 draft bills on issues of poverty and alternative sources of energy, among others, adding that he would sponsor them if elected to the Senate.

I hope this is true...The atmosphere in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital was charged yesterday as news filtered in that abducted school girls from Chibok may be released today, Leadership Newspaper reports.

A native of Chibok and government official who spoke with the newspaper early today said: “We are all in high spirit. I just returned from Chibok and from the information reaching us so far, we may very soon – in fact between now and tomorrow (Friday), have our girls freed”.
The security is also not left out in the optimism that’s in the air, as security agencies in Borno also confirmed that the girls may be released within 48 hours.
The report quoted a security source as saying: “From what we have received so far, the negotiation going on in Chad have recorded tremendous progress and we are looking forward to receiving the girls anytime soon”.
Saying it may be too early for jubilation, the officer said: “because we are dealing with very erratic set of people, we hope that this time around, it is for real, because we have been expecting this to happen since Monday”.

UNIBEN undergraduate arraigned by EFCC over $12,000 internet scam

Find the EFCC press statement below...
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, October 30, 2014 arraigned an undergraduate of the University of Benin, Kenneth Rukewe Ebule before Justice E. F Ikponmwen of an Edo State High Court, sitting in Benin- City on a 6- count charge bordering on forgery, obtaining money by false pretence and possession of fraudulent documents. The accused person allegedly duped Sabine Albert, a German, of the sum of $12, 088, 75 through fraudulent claims.
Rukewe, 30, a final year student of Computer and Statistics at the University of Benin, was arrested by officials of a new generation bank on May 28, 2014 in Benin City and handed over to the EFCC for further investigation.

Troubles started for him when Albert alleged that within two months after he had internet contact with him, Rukewe fraudulently obtained the sum of $12,088,75 (Twelve Thousand Eighty Eight Dollars and Seventy Five Cents) from him.

Rukewe allegedly posed to Albert as an English businessman on transit in Nigeria. He gave his name as Bob Albert and told his victim that he had a contract with a Nigerian company worth €1.200, 000.00 and that he needed a loan to facilitate a transaction with the company. He promised to pay back the loan and even doubled it because he was sure of pulling through the transactions. He also told Albert that he had complications and suffered a robbery attack.

Rukewe also falsely told Albert that, a levy of of N1,975,861 (One Million, Nine Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand, Eight Hundred and Sixty One Naira only) was imposed on him by the Federal Inland Revenue Service for the release of his International Passport, and a cheque worth 1, 200,000 Euros. He also pleaded for a flight ticket to London.

Based on all these, Albert offered to loan him the money by sending it through Western Union, only to discover that he had been scammed.

Investigation also revealed that the suspect had defrauded other German nationals to the tune of $110,975.00USD (One Hundred and Ten thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy Five United States Dollars) between May 2013 and January 2014.

When the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

One of the charges read in part:
“Ebule Kenneth Rukewe (a.k.a. Bob Albert), on or about the 17th day of July, 2013 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with Intent to defraud, obtained the sum of $12,088,75 (Twelve Thousand Eighty Eight Dollars and Seventy Five Cents) from Sabine Albert (a German National), under the false pretence that the money represented part payment of N1,975,861 (One Million Nine Hundred and Seventy Kobo) levy imposed one Bobby Albert (a British citizen) by Federal Inland Revenue Service for the release of the International Passport, Cheque worth 1,200,000 Euros and flight ticket to London of the said Bobby Albert, which representation you knew to be false”.

In view of the plea of the defendant, prosecution counsel, Kayode Oni asked for a trial date and prayed the court to remand the defendant in prison custody. The defence counsel, Maureen Morka informed the court of her application for bail dated September 9, 2014 and prayed the court to grant the defendant bail.

Justice Ikponmwen granted the defendant bail in the sum of One Million Naira and two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be resident in Benin City and must be gainfully employed in Edo State. The defendant must also produce his student identity card.

Justice Ikponmwen subsequently adjourned the case to November 21, 2014 for hearing and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail

PDP ‘mad’ at Deputy Speaker for privately hosting Tambuwal

ihedioha20`15 go hot sha oooo....There are ongoing reports that President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) are unhappy with the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, for privately hosting Speaker- Aminu Tambuwal barely 24 hours after the Speaker defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.
Tambuwal was said to have been received at the Deputy Speaker’s guest house on Pope John Paul Street, off Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja, few hours after he joined some members of APC in the House to attend the mini-national convention of the APC. The visit to Ihedioha’s home, which was initially intended to be a private one for Tambuwal, was later stormed by other members of the lower chamber, including some PDP members,.
A presidential aide yesterday told LEADERSHIP that the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, had been asked to explain which master he was elected to serve “because we cannot understand why he chose to host Speaker- Aminu Tambuwal to a warm reception a few hours after he defected from our party to APC.
“Is the deputy speaker with us or he is planning to move to the APC with his boss? The PDP deserves an answer from him.’’
Continuing, the informed source noted: “You know this man (referring to Ihedioha) cannot be trusted; he has consistently worked against the party in the past. He now appears to be working for the PDP because of his 2015 political interest. But even at that, we do not know where he truly belongs.”
According to the presidential aide, President Jonathan wanted to be very clear on whose side the deputy speaker belonged at this ‘critical moment of political decision.’
In their reaction, while Ihedioha dismissed the report as ‘not sensible’, the Media Adviser to Tambuwal, Malam Imam Imam, called for all clarifications on the issue to be referred to Ihedioha’s aides.
When contacted, the Chief Press secretary to the Deputy Speaker, Oke Epia, described the report as inconsequential, saying “this is a non-issue; are those behind this saying the Deputy Speaker would want to do that to show that he is in APC? I can tell you that this is not a sensible thing at all.”

“I’m not sure if to say yes or no” – Keshi claims Super Eagles’ return ‘difficult’

Keshi 469958_heroaStephen Keshi has admitted that he will take him time in deciding if to return as coach of Nigeria.
The Big Boss was dismissed earlier this month, after the Super Eagles defeated Sudan 3-1 in Abuja and Shuaibu Amodu was appointed as caretaker coach.
However, following President Goodluck Jonathan’s orders and a plea from Amodu, Keshi has been asked to continue with the team, at least for the rest of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Congo.
“It is a very, very difficult decision. I am not sure I would say ‘no’ for now or ‘yes’ to the order,” the 52-year-old told reporters after meeting with sports minister Tammy Danagogo on Thursday.
“I still have to think about it because we all want peace. I want a settled mind before making the decision. I don’t have issues with anybody because life is too short. This is my country. I am always willing to offer my service.”
Keshi also insisted that money would not influence his decision.
“If I desperately wanted a contract, I would have opted for the offer made by Equatorial Guinea because the offer they made was bigger than what Nigeria offered. But this is my country and I want to serve it.”
