Aminu Tambuwal became Speaker of the House of Reps on the platform of
the PDP but now that he has dumped the party for APC (he officially
announced his defection today), the PDP is now asking him to resign. In a
statement released today, the party asked Tambuwal to do the needful...
"After a thorough consideration of the matter, the NWC (National Working Committee) came to a conclusion that the Hon. Speaker, as a responsible elected officer, knows full well what is needful and honourable of him since his new party is in the minority. We are not unmindful of the fact that Hon. Tambuwal became Speaker on the platform of the PDP as the political party with the majority of seats in the House of Representatives and that this incontrovertible fact has not changed”. the PDP said... Also Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday said he was not surprised over the sudden defection of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, to the APC.Akpabio said he was expecting that to happen before now because Tambuwal was only a PDP member by name.
Akpabio, however, said he expects Tambuwal to resign, adding that irrespective of his defection, the PDP remains the majority in the house.
He said, “We have always known the Speaker as a PDP man in name but APC in action and he has proved it to the world. I will only ask him to be honourable and resign especially as the PDP is not in crisis.
“I wish the Speaker well in his new party”.
