EYAAAA......."I've fought a long battle with the Home Office" - Nigerian man who is set to be deported after 16 years in the UK says

"I

A 35-year-old Nigerian man who has been living in the UK for the past 16 years is set to be deported after losing several appeal.

Barido Nwinaene arrived in Liverpool on a student visa and studied for a degree in business and marketing at Liverpool Hope University.

He went on to obtain his Master's in computers and information systems at Liverpool John Moores University.

"I

He lives in his friend's flat in Toxteth and has a 10-year-old daughter, now living in the Midlands.

But after exhausting appeals to remain on Merseyside, the Home Office has ruled he must return to Nigeria.

Mr Nwinaene argues he is a fully integrated citizen in Liverpool, a place he considers home, and has many friends and an uncle here.

Since acquiring his qualifications, he has not worked because he's been unable to secure the relevant visa for an employer.

Letters from the Home Office appear to indicate that because Mr Nwinaene has spent nine years and eight months in the UK with "lawful leave" - during his studies and lengthy appeal process, it is just short of the 10-year continuous residence required to remain in this country.

Riverside MP Kim Johnson who is supporting Mr Nwinaene and told the Home Office to grant him permanent residency.

"As a member of our public who calls this country his home, and has contributed so much already to is community, both local and academic, I feel it would benefit Mr Nwinaene greatly to receive permanent status."

At one point, about five years ago, Nwinaene spent six months being transferred to different detention centres around UK, in Glasgow, London and Manchester before he was allowed back to Merseyside.

In an interview with ECHO on Wednesday, December 30, Nwinaene said he will face significant hardship if he was forced to return to Nigeria and will be made homeless.

"Liverpool is my home and has been for the last 16 years. It would be devastating to return to Nigeria, I've not been able to get hold of any family there for a long time. I 'm really integrated in Liverpool and Toxteth and I can offer a lot to the city and community. I have fought a long battle with the Home Office, I would like them to grant me permanent residency."

However, a Home Office spokesperson said: “All applications are carefully considered on their individual merits, on the basis of the evidence provided and in accordance with the immigration rules. This case has been tested before the courts and our position has been upheld.”

Vilifying Pastor Kumuyi over the #JusticeForDonDavis incident is uncalled for - Reno Omokri

Vilifying Pastor Kumuyi over the #JusticeForDonDavis incident is uncalled for - Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri is against Nigerians vilifying the General Overseer of Deeper Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, over the alleged sexual abuse of Don Davis, a JS1 student of the Deeper Life High School, which is owned by Kumuyi's Ministry.

Since Don Davis's mother came out to cry out for justice, Nigerians have attacked the clergyman for not openly speaking about the incident. They believe that his comment would show that he is committed to getting justice for the child.

Reno however shares a different opinion. He believes that the attack on the clergyman is uncalled for.

On his IG page this morning, he wrote;

''Vilifying Pastor Kumuyi over the #JusticeForDonDavis incident is uncalled for. The principal was speedily suspended. A 3rd party is investigating. Therefore, a media lynching is unhelpful. Blaming Kumuyi is like blaming Christ for Judas’s behaviour!

#JusticeForDonDavis shouldn’t be driven by media hysteria. What needs to be done seems to be going on. The state and police are investigating. If anything shady is ESTABLISHED to be going on with the probe, we should raise an alarm. If not, let’s be patient with the investigation. Many people genuinely care about #JusticeForDonDavis. But, a few people just want to trend by throwing mud at men, like Pastor Kumuyi, whose lives, though not perfect, are a pattern of good works. If he talks on issues under investigation, he will be preempting the investigation''

Ijaw youths storm NDDC office, demand the immediate resignation of Godswill Akpabio as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs (video)

Angry Ijaw youths stormed the Niger Delta Development Commission's office on Monday December 21, demanding the immediate resignation of Godswill Akpabio as Minister of Niger Delta Affiars.

The aggrieved youths accused the former Akwa Ibom state governor of bringing his own brother to run the affairs of the commission.

One of the youths who spoke during the protest at the NDDC office said;

We are here in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to tell Godswill Akpabio that he did not put his blood for the Ijaw nation or the Niger Delta. We the Ijaw people put our blood and our sweat for the Ministry of Niger Delta to come into play.

So he cannot undermine the Ijaw people in the Niger Delta who are the largest population in the Niger Delta. He cannot do that. It is unacceptable. That is the reason why we are here in his office to tell him to resign, to leave this office for us. Today is the last day we are giving him to leave this office.

He cannot use the Ministry of the Niger Delta as his child pet. No way. We wouldn't accept that. That is the reason why we are here to make sure he leaves this office today.''

We do not have to blame God for our situation in Nigeria. We have to blame ourselves - Obasanjo

We do not have to blame God for our situation in Nigeria. We have to blame ourselves - Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that Nigerians ought to blame themselves and not God for the current state of the nation.

Obasanjo said this at his Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State, in his 2021 message to Nigerians on Tuesday, December 29.

According to him, with enormous resources available in the country, Nigeria does not have to be poor and no Nigerian must go to bed hungry.

"I like the motto of a school which says 'work and pray.' Some people say it should be 'pray and work', but it doesn't matter to me what order I put it, but prayer must go with work and work must go with prayer.

And I believe we need to work hard in this country as we pray hard so that the coming year, the year 2021 will be a glorious year for us. But it will not happen unless we work to make it happen.

We do not have to blame God for our situation; we have to blame ourselves. Nigeria does not have to be poor. No Nigerian must go to bed hungry. That we have a situation like that is a choice by our leaders and followers alike. My prayer is that God will make the year 2021 a better year for all of us, but it will not happen without work."his message read

On the strategy to recover the economy from recession, Obasanjo said

"When we do the right thing, the economy will be what it should be.

We have gone from one form of insecurity to a bad economy, and on the top of it is the COVID-19. Some people, either for insecurity or the bad economy or COVID-19, have gone to the great beyond. I will say to those who have departed, particularly in this year of challenges, may their souls rest in perfect peace."

Your relationship is not meant to be a bondage - Clergywoman, Laurie Idahosa warns couples against caging or monitoring their partners

Your relationship is not meant to be a bondage - Clergywoman, Laurie Idahosa warns couples against caging or monitoring their partners

Clergywoman, Laurie Idahosa, has warned couples against the practice of caging or monitoring their partners.

In a piece shared on social media, Ms. Idahosa said the more a partner cages or monitors his or her significant other, the more freedom becomes attractive to them.

She opined that one of the ways to lose a partner's interest is to be obsessive or monitor their every move.

Her post reads

''The more you cage and monitor your partner, the more attractive freedom from you will become. When you lovingly trust them, free them and stop acting like a private detective, they find themselves coming back, asking to be caged by your love.

As the year comes to an end, you may have found yourself being overly obsessed and possessive of your relationship. You may be at a place where you will do whatever it takes to keep your partner, so that you don’t journey into 2021 alone. This desperation may have been making you act in ways that will drive your partner away instead of drawing them in.

One of the best ways to lose a partner’s interest is to hold onto them too closely; to become obsessive and to monitor their moves.

Your relationship is not meant to be a bondage. Don’t treat your partner like your property, your ward or as if you need to control their every action.

If you are obsessing over them, (even if it is just in your mind), you could very well be sabotaging the one thing you want to keep, more than anything in the world.

Learn to trust, to release the pressure and to love unconditionally, without a magnifying glass. You don’t need to see everything in their world.

Maintaining a life and pursuing interests that aren’t being monitored by you in detail is what makes your partner more interesting.

Here’s a little checklist....

Stop controlling
Stop snooping around
Stop following their every move
Stop spying on their social media, phones, laptops etc.
Stop interrogating
Stop being so needy
Stop being so insecure.

When you ditch these self-destructive behaviors, you are leaving room for them to love you and pursue your love the way they did when you first started.''
