A mother of four was killed and a young man was injured after security officers allegedly fired gunshot while chasing a driver in Asaba, Delta state on Tuesday, December 22.
According to reports, officers from the newly formed security unit,
Operation Delta Hawk, were reportedly chasing a driver known as Joshua,.
Joshua allegedly refused to stop, so the officers allegedly fired
gunshots at his car. One of the stray bullets landed on the
yet-to-be-identified mother of four, killing her on the spot while
Joshua sustained a gunshot wound.
Activist, Harrison Gwamnishu shared the sad story online and has vowed
to lead a protest in Asaba today, December 23, to demand justice for the
victims.
Operation Delta Hawk was launched by the state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, in November 10 2020 to secure the lives and property of residents of the state. Operation Delta Hawk comprises of different security agencies and vigilante groups.
The state police command is yet to comment on the incident.
