Nigerian man found dead days after he was declared missing in the US

A 22-year-old Nigerian man, Faruq Osilalu, has been found dead in Baltimore City in the US days after he was declared missing.

Alayna Osilalu, the wife of late Faruq told US media that her husband, a driver with a transportation company, was found dead on October 4 but he was listed as a John Doe, until recently when authorities were able to identify him through his jewelry. She said he was giving someone a ride on the day he was last seen and that what happened to him remains a mystery.

The distraught new mum said his remains were so badly damaged that investigators could not figure out his fingerprints. She said her husband worked as a private contractor under Sedan Service in Baltimore and that she reported him missing on September 19, two days after his last known ride.

She said she made an official report of him being missing on September 27 and that two days later, the police found his car. It was pulled over but Faruq wasn't behind the wheels. Instead it was an unidentified driver and passenger that were inside. Baltimore County Police say they were arrested and interrogated about late Faruqs whereabouts. Police say they were later released because there wasn't enough evidence to charge them.

On Thursday, October 28, the police announced that Farruq was "no longer missing," and that the city police department is taking over the investigation.

The police said they're waiting for an autopsy to determine how he died.

Meanwhile, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied the involvement of its operatives in the search. A statement from the antigraft agency reads

“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to claims in a section of the media that operatives of the Commission today, October 29, 2021 stormed the Maitama, Abuja home of a Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili, purportedly to execute a search,” Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesman, said in a statement.

Nigerian Army denies creating 'unknown gunmen and Biafra National Guard'

Nigerian Army denies creating

The Nigerian Army has denied allegations that it or the Department of State Services (DSS) created the Biafra National Guard and the unknown gunmen in the South-East.

This comes after the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) alleged recently that the DSS created both groups to disunite Igbos and paint the IPOB as a criminal group.

The Army described the claims as a hoax by the IPOB and the Eastern Security Network to diminish the public support it's military activities in the South-East has been getting.

Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed this in a statement titled, ‘Conspiracy Pretext Employed By IPOB/ESN, A Hoax,’ issued on Saturday, October 30.

The statement read, “The Nigerian Army(NA) is not unmindful of the antics of individuals or groups whose stock in trade is to peddle falsehood and disinformation to remain relevant in South-East Nigeria. One of such scheming, currently in the media domain is the mischievous submission by Kalu Odinakachi, who alleged that the DMI and DSS created and funded BNG, UGM to Enforce-Sit- at Home in a bid to discredit IPOB/ESN. It must be abundantly clarified that this spurious allegation is unfounded and could be absolutely described as a hoax.

“Though the NA would not like to elevate such purveyors of disinformation and propaganda, it is expedient to put on record, that in recent times, the activities of IPOB/ESN have undoubtedly assumed a violent dimension. This unimaginable level of violence is oiled with propaganda and disinformation to whip-up sentiments and draw sympathy from unsuspecting citizens in the region.

“For the records, the proscribed organisation has in recent times foisted a sit-at-home order to show sympathy for their self-acclaimed leader. This was greeted with violence, orchestrated destruction of public installations and facilities, arson, as well as looting of shops and malls in the region, to demonstrate their criminal potency. They defiled the sanctity of the highly revered traditional institution of Ndigbos by recklessly murdering their own traditional leaders. These spineless and irresponsible actions targeted at the very people they claim they want to liberate, clearly unmask their heinous and directionless agenda for Ndigbos.

“Realising the futility, hollowness and public rejection of their violent agitation, they resorted to twisting the narrative in the region to galvanise local support. Their wild allegation that BNG and UGN were an overt operation by the DMI and DSS is not only laughable but remains largely illusive and a ploy to diminish the public support the NA is savouring in the ongoing exercises. In his blatant display of ignorance, Odinakachi failed to realise that such designation as DMI has since ceased to exist in the NA. These criminal elements with their cohorts must come to terms with the reality of the ongoing Exercise GOLDEN DAWN and turn themselves in to security agencies or be ready to face the consequences of their lawlessness.

“More grotesque is the narrative peddled by these merchants of propaganda, in respect of IPOB/ESN gunmen recently eliminated by troops in a shootout at Ekwulobia Roundout in Aguata LGA. These unscrupulous elements insinuated that those taken out were Fulanis. An outrageous claim that should be disregarded in its entirety. This is apparently another failed attempt in their usual mannerism, to attribute their criminal activities to a third party and feign innocence; an indication of a visionless group totally devoid of integrity.”

“We encourage members of the public to provide actionable information to security agencies as the Exercises progress,” the statement added.

IPOB dissociates itself from Biafra National Guard after Nigerian military killed its member

The Indigenous People of Biafra has dissociated itself from the Biafra National Guard.

This comes after the Nigerian Army said on Thursday night, October 28, that its troops conducting 'Exercise Golden Dawn' have neutralised one of the Biafran National Guard (BNG) gunmen (pictured below) who attacked troops’ location at Amaekpu, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State on Thursday 28 October 2021.

IPOB dissociates itself from Biafra National Guard after Nigerian military killed its member

IPOB's spokesman, Emma Powerful, has however said that its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, does not accept criminal acts, hence there is no link between the IPOb and the BNG.

The statement read in part, “We the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra ably led by our prophet and indefatigable leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to alert IPOB families worldwide and the international community that we do not know of a group called Biafra National Guard and should not be linked in a shape or form with this group whose activities do not correspond with IPOB’S fundamental objectives.

“We have observed the unpatriotic and nefarious activities of this group and we hereby unequivocally dissociate ourselves from the group and its activities.

“This group has no link whatsoever with IPOB and does not work for IPOB. IPOB has nothing to do with any group associated with criminality. Our mandate is the peaceful restoration of Biafra, anything other than this will have nothing to do with us.”

The group, also distanced itself from criminal acts such as extortion and kidnapping .

“Our leader Mazi Nnamdi KANU does not encourage criminality or any action injurious to the people of Biafra. We don’t encourage extortion or forceful collection of fuel and other lubricants from any petrol station in Biafraland. This is the criminality that cannot be condoned in Biafra land.

“Anybody or group caught in such barbaric act will be seriously dealt with. Some evil politicians are using crimially minded elements to foment trouble in our land,” the statement added.

A 26-year-old woman identified as Clara Jacob, has drowned in a hotel swimming pool in Jalingo, Taraba State.

An eyewitness who spoke to The Sun said that Clara and her friends were swimming at the hotel swimming pool on Saturday, October 30, when they noticed she was missing.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have rearrested a 35-year-old nursing mother for drug trafficking a week after she was granted bail for same offence.

Recall that Mariam Drissu was arrested at the Edo State Command headquarters of the Agency on Thursday 21st October while trying to smuggle two cups of "Loud" cannabis weighing 13grams buried inside wraps of (akpu) into the cell for a suspect in custody.

Nursing mother rearrested with drugs a week after she was granted bail for attempting to smuggle cannabis into NDLEA cell for suspect in custody

"Barely a week after she was arrested and granted bail for attempting to smuggle drugs concealed in cassava flour meal called akpu into NDLEA cell for a suspect in custody, a nursing mother who claims to be a part-time 400-level student of International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of Benin, Mariam Adetilewa Dirisu has again been arrested for trafficking in 5kg skunk and 8.1grams of Molly," Director, Media & Advocacy of the agency, Femi Babafemi, says in a statement on Sunday, October 31.

"The 35-year-old mother of a 2 month-old-baby was first arrested on 21st October by the Edo state Command of the Agency. Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) had on the same day directed that she be counselled and released immediately because of the young baby she was carrying

"Curiously, a controlled delivery operation carried out by operatives of the Delta state Command of the Agency on Saturday 30th October again led to the arrest of Mariam who had ordered for the drugs from Lagos even while still on bail for an earlier offence," he added.

The statement also said that desperate efforts by drug cartels to export different quantities of Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine and Cannabis to London, United Kingdom through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos have been scuttled by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

Narcotic officers of the Agency had on Thursday 28th October during outward routine clearance of cargo at NAHCO export shed of the airport intercepted 20 parcels of Cocaine weighing 1.2kg concealed in packets of Zee black soap; 23 parcels of Heroin weighing 1.4kg hidden in packets of Zee black soap and 39 parcels of 2.35kg Methamphetamine concealed in Dudu -Osun black soap packets.

Few days earlier, October 21, a similar cargo had been intercepted at the NAHCO shed of the MMIA, where 7.35kgs of Cannabis concealed inside some tablets of Dudu Osun black soap were recovered. No fewer than three suspects have so far been arrested in connection to the seizures.

In Ondo state, no less than 1,645kilograms of cannabis were seized in three interdiction operations in parts of the state. Operatives had on 28th October stormed Emure cannabis farm camp where 313kilograms of cannabis were seized and seven suspects: Paul Godwin; Michael Nnaji; Ezugu Lucky; Omolu Sunday; Simon Taiwo; David Udofia; and M. Suleiman arrested.

Operatives had the previous day raided the Ipele-Idoani forest where 534kgs of abandoned compressed cannabis were recovered just as a total of 798kilograms of cannabis were seized from two suspects; Gbenga Falodun and Faseyitan Opeyemi at Ikare junction, Owo area of the state. Also recovered from them include a white Mercedes Benz truck Lagos LSR 06 XW and monetary exhibit of N20, 000.

At least, two suspected fake security agents; Umar Ibrahim and Sadiq Abubakar as well as their accomplice, Auwal Hassan have been arrested in Kogi state while conveying a total of 105.4kilograms of cannabis from Ondo state to Kaduna on Saturday 30th October in a Mercedes Benz C 180 car with registration number Abuja BWR 924 KH.

Raids at three black spots in Oshodi, Ikeja and Ogba areas of Lagos State on 23rd October have led to the arrest of a 15-year-old female SS II student of Idi - Araba Senior High School, Walaka Adams, who was arrested at No. 72 Mafoluku Road, Oshodi, with 100 grams of cannabis sativa; Sodiq Ganun, a 24-year-old wielder with 200grams of cannabis at the same address and Tajudeen Azeez, arrested at Ipodo, Ikeja, with 9 grams of Cocaine. At a drug joint in Ogba area of Ikeja, different quantities of abandoned drugs such as Molly, Rohypnol and Codeine based syrup were recovered.

While commending the officers and men of the MMIA, Delta, Ondo, Kogi and Lagos Commands of the Agency for not resting on their oars, Gen. Marwa charged them and their counterparts in other Commands to remain resolute in the ongoing efforts to cut access and availability of illicit drugs across the country.
