Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar in partnership with some public-spirited individuals has offered full scholarships to 15 out of the girls abducted by the Boko Haram insurgents from Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State.
Disclosing this through his twitter account, the former Vice President noted, “(Fifteen) of the #ChibokGirls who escaped have been admitted into AUN Academy on a scholarship,”
“My sincere thanks to the good spirited individuals and friends who raised funds for this worthy cause. #BringBackOurGirls‎. ‎
“It is heartbreaking to see how much the Chibok parents have suffered. We must pray for the safe return of all the girls,” he said.
While an estimated 276 students were abducted, about 40 of them who managed to escape from captivity had vowed not to continue their education unless they find a safe and secure environment to learn.
Atiku met their condition by granting them scholarship into the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Adamawa state, an institution that was founded by him in 2005.
The former Vice President, who noted that the philanthropic gesture was perfected in collaboration with other individuals, expressed sympathy for parents of the girls who are still in Boko Haram captivity and called for prayers for their safe return.
