Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is
outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own
body.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain
from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own
body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the
Gentiles who do not know God;
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is
faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but
with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may
be able to endure it.
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful
intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral
or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance
in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed
be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the
kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor
idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor
thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will
inherit the kingdom of God.
But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.
“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God
will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual
immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised
the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that
your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of
Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Or do you not know
that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as
it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” But he who is joined to
the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality,
impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,
So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love,
and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the
passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.
And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For
from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual
immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit,
sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things
come from within, and they defile a person.”
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin.
“Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God
will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual
immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership
has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with
darkness?
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent
has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have
committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood
is upon them.
Because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped
and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever!
Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For
their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to
nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and
were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless
acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their
error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them
up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
Just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which
likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire,
serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.
We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day.
And such were some of you. But you were
washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord
Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints.
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality,
impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits
of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies,
and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those
who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to
the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have
divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every
lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every
thought captive to obey Christ,
I fear that when I come again my God may humble me before you, and I
may have to mourn over many of those who sinned earlier and have not
repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality that they
have practiced.
Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your
youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all
times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love.
But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the
ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever
marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

“I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then could I gaze at a virgin?
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for
murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars,
their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which
is the second death.”
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual
immorality, theft, false witness, slander. These are what defile a
person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”
“You shall not commit adultery.
To the married I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): the wife
should not separate from her husband (but if she does, she should remain
unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and the husband should
not divorce his wife.
Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to
wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first
believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast
off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk
properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual
immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on
the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify
its desires.
But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears
the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is
an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a
one.

idols, and from sexual immorality, and from what has been strangled, and
from blood.

But in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: they

like Sodom to me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”

Then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to
keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment,
But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires
of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and
the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed
to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if
you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of
the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality,
idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries,
dissensions, divisions,
And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.”
Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ
Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ
Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law,
weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the
likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in
order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in
us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. For
those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of
the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on
the things of the Spirit.
“None of the daughters of Israel shall be a cult prostitute, and
none of the sons of Israel shall be a cult prostitute. You shall not
bring the fee of a prostitute or the wages of a dog into the house of
the
Lord your God in payment for any vow, for both of these are an abomination to the
Lord your God.
It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you,
and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans, for a man has his
father's wife.
Now Absalom, David's son, had a beautiful sister, whose name was
Tamar. And after a time Amnon, David's son, loved her. And Amnon was so
tormented that he made himself ill because of his sister Tamar, for she
was a virgin, and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do anything to her.
But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah,
David's brother. And Jonadab was a very crafty man. And he said to him,
“O son of the king, why are you so haggard morning after morning? Will
you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's
sister.” Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be
ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Let my sister
Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight,
that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’”
“If a man meets a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and
lies with her, and they are found, then the man who lay with her shall
give to the father of the young woman fifty shekels of silver, and she
shall be his wife, because he has violated her. He may not divorce her
all his days.
“None of you shall approach any one of his close relatives to uncover nakedness. I am the
Lord.
You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, which is the
nakedness of your mother; she is your mother, you shall not uncover her
nakedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife; it
is your father's nakedness. You shall not uncover the nakedness of your
sister, your father's daughter or your mother's daughter, whether
brought up in the family or in another home. You shall not uncover the
nakedness of your son's daughter or of your daughter's daughter, for
their nakedness is your own nakedness.
No ill befalls the righteous, but the wicked are filled with trouble.
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Why should you be intoxicated, my son, with a forbidden woman and
embrace the bosom of an adulteress? For a man's ways are before the eyes
of the
Lord, and he ponders all his paths. The
iniquities of the wicked ensnare him, and he is held fast in the cords
of his sin. He dies for lack of discipline, and because of his great
folly he is led astray.
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching,
but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to
suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth
and wander off into myths.
For the price of a prostitute is only a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts down a precious life.
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he
has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has
promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am
being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he
himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and
enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth
to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to
impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because
they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served
the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For
this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women
exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and
the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed
with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and
receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the
kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor
idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be
burned? Or can one walk on hot coals and his feet not be scorched? So is
he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; none who touches her will go
unpunished.
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to
your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your
commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not
sin against you.

To preserve you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the
adulteress. Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her
capture you with her eyelashes; for the price of a prostitute is only a

So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman, from the
adulteress with her smooth words, who forsakes the companion of her
youth and forgets the covenant of her God; for her house sinks down to
death, and her paths to the departed; none who go to her come back, nor
do they regain the paths of life. So you will walk in the way of the
good and keep to the paths of the righteous.

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in
him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do
nothing.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you
rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and
lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is
easy, and my burden is light.”
Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.
And after a time his master's wife cast her eyes on Joseph and
said, “Lie with me.” But he refused and said to his master's wife,
“Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the
house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge. He is not
greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me
except yourself, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great
wickedness and sin against God?”
People do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his appetite
when he is hungry, but if he is caught, he will pay sevenfold; he will
give all the goods of his house. He who commits adultery lacks sense; he
who does it destroys himself. He will get wounds and dishonor, and his
disgrace will not be wiped away.
My son, be attentive to my wisdom; incline your ear to my
understanding, that you may keep discretion, and your lips may guard
knowledge. For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey, and her speech
is smoother than oil, but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as
a two-edged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path
to Sheol;
“You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet
your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his
ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.”
Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her
paths, for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a
mighty throng. Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers
of death.
In those days, when there was no king in Israel, a certain Levite
was sojourning in the remote parts of the hill country of Ephraim, who
took to himself a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah. And his concubine
was unfaithful to him, and she went away from him to her father's house
at Bethlehem in Judah, and was there some four months. Then her husband
arose and went after her, to speak kindly to her and bring her back. He
had with him his servant and a couple of donkeys. And she brought him
into her father's house. And when the girl's father saw him, he came
with joy to meet him. And his father-in-law, the girl's father, made him
stay, and he remained with him three days. So they ate and drank and
spent the night there. And on the fourth day they arose early in the
morning, and he prepared to go, but the girl's father said to his
son-in-law, “Strengthen your heart with a morsel of bread, and after
that you may go.”
But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom,
both young and old, all the people to the last man, surrounded the
house. And they called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you
tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them.” Lot went out to
the men at the entrance, shut the door after him, and said, “I beg you,
my brothers, do not act so wickedly.
And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of
fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they
will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Then I saw a great
white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and
sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead,
great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then
another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were
judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had
done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave
up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them,
according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into
the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
My son, keep my words and treasure up my commandments with you;
keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your
eye; bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate

her smooth words.
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.
But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel,
who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants
to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from
Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. And large
crowds followed him, and he healed them there. And Pharisees came up to
him and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful to divorce one's wife for
any cause?” He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them
from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man
shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and
the two shall become one flesh’?
While Israel lived in Shittim, the people began to whore with the
daughters of Moab. These invited the people to the sacrifices of their

Lord was kindled against Israel.
And the
Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, I am the

am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes. You shall follow
my rules and keep my statutes and walk in them. I am the
Lord your God. You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the
Lord.
