Cristiano Ronaldo has said that Real Madrid are hoping to become the first team, to successfully defend their Champions League trophy.
The La Liga giants claimed their ‘La Decima’ last season, defeating city rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1 in the final. with Ronaldo scoring the last goal.
“Madrid are going to be the first team [to retain the Champions League] I hope,” Ronaldo told the press.
“I believe that the players Real Madrid bought – Toni Kroos, James Rodriguez and Keylor Navas – they’re going to give more support to the team and more quality.
“I am very glad for the quality we have in the squad. We’re going to try to win all the trophies. It’s good to win this trophy to give confidence to the team.”
Ronaldo also scored a brace, as Madrid beat Sevilla on Tuesday, to win the UEFA Super Cup. The Portuguese who has been slowed down by injuries in the past few months, expressed his delight at scoring and winning the trophy.
“It’s an important trophy, the Super Cup, so we start on the right foot,” he said. “We played better than Sevilla. I scored two goals and I’m coming back from my injury so it’s a perfect night so I feel very pleased for that. My team-mates helped me a lot to score the goals so it was a fantastic night.”
The 29-year-old also had praise for Bale, who provided him a wonderful cross to open scoring in the 30th minute of the game.
“He’s amazing,” Ronaldo said. “He looks strong, he looks fast and he’s a very important player for us. I’m really happy for his performance tonight. He had a fantastic season last year.
