Police warn troublemakers, debunk arrest of INEC officials

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Osun State governorship election, Mr. Augustine Evbakhabokun, on Friday warned trouble makers to stay away from the state or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.
The new CP said this in Osogbo at a press conference he addressed to state the level of preparedness of the police for today’s election.
According to the CP, the policemen and other security agents deployed for the election are going to ensure that there is no violence anywhere in the state.
He warned voters against taking photograph shot of their already thumb printed ballot papers. He said the act constituted a breach of the Electoral Act.
He said that there would be total restriction of movement from 6pm on Friday to 6pm on Saturday until after the election.
He said, “ There will be 24 hour restriction of movement within the state commencing from 6pm on Friday to 6pm on Saturday.
“The restriction of movement became necessary to forestall any act capable of causing a breakdown of law and order in the state during and after the poll.
“The restriction of movement will include inter-highways around the state. The restriction of movement is part of measures towards ensuring a hitch free election in the state.”
The CP said that the restriction would affect media organisations’ vehicles conveying newspapers into the state. Evbakhabokun also debunked the rumour that two officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were arrested with vehicle full of already thumb printed ballot papers.
He confirmed that the police arrested two INEC officials with the commission’s vehicle and they were taken to the State Criminal
investigation Department for interrogation.
He, however said that the two officials had been cleared by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, who confirmed that the men were on an official assignment.
