Two farmers, Amos Kareem (30) and Abubakar Ladan (32) both of Tabera Village, Okuta in Kwara State, have been sentenced to four years imprisonment for being in possession of human head.
This was just as another farmer in Woro village, Kaima in the state, allegedly killed his friend over a bicycle
An Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court convicted the two farmers having found them guilty of being in possession of human parts for ritual purposes.
Prior to their conviction, the prosecutor, Sergeant Mathew Ologbonshaiye, urged the court to try them summarily since they pleaded guilty to the offence.
Chief Magistrate K. A. Yahaya granted the oral application of the prosecutor and convicted the accused of the offences of criminal conspiracy and unlawful possession of human head contrary to Sections 97 and 219 of Penal Code Law.
Consequently, the court sentenced them to four years imprisonment without option of fine. The convicts would spend the jail term at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, in the state capital.
Policeman from Okuta had arrested the farmers on July 23 for exhuming the corpse of one Kondekuro Adama who was buried in the community cemetery about four months ago.
The convicts were said to have severed the head, two legs and two hands for ritual purposes.
According to the police first information report (FIR) on the matter, the two men confessed to detectives at the Department of Criminal Investigation in Ilorin, that a yet-to-be-identified person demanded for the human parts with a promise to give them a car and motorcycle.
In another development, a 30-year-old farmer, Haruna Mohammed of Woro village, Kaiama in the state, who allegedly killed his friend over a bicycle has been remanded at the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura in Ilorin.
An Ilorin Magistrate Court ordered the remand of the accused that is facing a one-count charge of culpable homicide.
He was alleged to have on June 26, hacked his friend to death in order to inherit his bicycle and his farm. Policemen from Kaiama Divisional Headquarters arrested him following a complaint by one Sadiq Musa of Woro Village that, while he was in his house, one Ibrahim Zaki told him the 52-year-old deceased, Abubakar Dankanu, was found dead in his hut.
