Ebola: Prison health workers express fear of vulnerability

Deputy Director of Health Services at the Nigeria Prison service in Rivers State, Doctor Paul Wakama has expressed fears that inmates at the Port Harcourt prisons are vulnerable to contacting the Ebola virus if it finds its way into the Rivers.
Doctor Wakama expressed the fear during a stakeholders meeting with medical practitioners held at the Rivers State Ministry of Health.
He said health workers at the prisons were under-staffed, adding that less than ten health workers were managing over four thousand prison inmates in the state.
He pleaded for support from the state government.
Meanwhile, stakeholders in the health sector in Rivers State have expressed readiness to combat the infiltration of Ebola virus in the state.
Permanent secretary of the state Primary Health Care Board, Nnesochi Offor revealed that the state Government had placed order for quarantine materials from the United States of America.
She assured that the state government was prepared to stop the spread, if it entered the state.
On their part, Director of Public Health of the state Government, Doctor Nnanna Onyekwere, and a cross section of the stakeholders told us that a lot was being done in preparation to control the spread of the virus when it eventually comes into the state.
The paramilitary, aviation and port authorities, medical practitioners and other health stakeholders were present at the meeting.
