The Nigerian Aviation Authority, last night turned back a corpse flown into the country from Egypt at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.
It was gathered that the corpse, which arrived Nigeria aboard Egypt Air at about 11.30 pm was disallowed outrightly by Airport officials from been discharged into the waiting hands of the immediate family of the deceased.
Vanguard reports that the action of the airport officials was in strict compliance with the recent directives by the Federal Government that no corpse should be allowed into the country till further notice to check the spread of the Ebola Disease.
The source explained that “although Egypt is not one of the Countries with recognized case of Ebola, the directive has no exception”
The source revealed that the corpse was that of a Nigerian who had gone to the north African country for medical treatment.
“We plead with the family members who had turned up at the Airport to received his corpse to bear with us in the face of a big national question that requires the understanding of citizens to surmount”, the source explained.
However, the Corporate Affairs Manager of the organization, Alhaji Yakubu Datti neither confirm nor deny the story, but instead advised that questions of that nature should be channeled to the Federal Ministry of Health.
