Hehehe....The Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has rejected the outcome of the Board of Trustees, BoT, meeting which resolved to hold the next national convention of the party in Abuja as part of reconciliation moves. In a statement, which was signed by the acting Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh and made available to Fidelis Chidi blog in Abuja, the Sheriff faction held that the decision of the BoT fell short of their expectations which were earlier
reached with Dickson/Mantu reconciliation committee.“The agreement was for Mode Sheriff to chair the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting where Makarfi will attend as a member of the BoT to discuss and agree who should head the proposed convention committee, including all other sub-committees,” the statement said.It reads in part: “The venue of the Convention will be in Abuja, where a new leadership of the party will emerge, internal democracy will be respected and confidence will return to the party as well as availing opportunities for every member of the party”.Sheriff called for complete dismantling of the Caretaker Committee, even as he decried Makarfi’s inability to hold successful national convention for two consecutive times in Port Harcourt. He added that friends and political associates of Ahmed Makarfi should put him under pressure to resign so that he could reorganize the party, noting that PDP cannot continue with impunity that has brought it to its knees.“At this juncture, we call on his friends and associates and family to advice him to do the needful and resign now to save multiparty democracy in Nigeria and stop impunity that has been the bane of the party’s woes,” he said.According to the statement, Sheriff regretted that the party’s BoT Chairman, Senator Walid Jubril, who has spent over ten years in the position was in clear breach of the party’s Constitution, a situation he said, has not given opportunities to the likes of Senator David Mark, Babangida Aliyu to come on stream. He further advised the National Working Committee to recognise their previously agreed terms with the Reconciliation Committee and desist from making statement that were noxious in the interest of the party.“As we move towards reconciliation, we are ready to prevent any person or group from hijacking the party, while we assure Nigerians that the PDP will emerge stronger in future elections,” Ojougboh maintained.
