A statement by Army’s acting spokesman, Col Sani Usman, said Shekau was believed to have been injured on his shoulders, while some commanders of the group were killed in an aerial operation by the Nigerian Air Force.
According to the Army spokesman, the operation was carried out on August 19, 2016 as the terrorists were performing Friday rituals at Taye village, Gombale general area, within Sambisa forest, Borno State.
“The air interdiction took place last week Friday 19th August 2016, while the terrorists were performing Friday rituals at Taye village, Gombale general area within Sambisa forest, Borno State.
“Those Boko Haram terrorists commanders confirmed dead include
Abubakar Mubi, Malam Nuhu and Malam Hamman, amongst others, while their
leader, the so-called ‘Abubakar Shekau’, is believed to be fatally
wounded on his shoulders. Several other terrorists were also wounded.”
The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, has revealed that no fewer than 300
militants have been killed during an aerial operations in the North
East.
Recall that NAF had in the recent weeks carried out many successful airstrikes against Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, made the disclosure after commissioning a hospital and a borehole built by the NAF for the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, in Bama.
According to the Air Chief, “We have intensified airstrikes in recent weeks and have had outstanding results.
“On the 19th of this month [August], 300 terrorists were killed by our night operations.”
The Air Marshal warned the Boko Haram militants to surrender now and face the wrath of justice because there would be no safe haven for them.
