“I told Suarez that Arsenal are not good enough for him” – Gerrard

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, has revealed that he asked Luis Suarez to stay at Anfield last year, because Arsenal who were interested in signing him at the time, were not good enough for him.
Arsene Wenger famously sent in a bid of £40million plus one pound for Suarez, which was expected to activate the player’s release clause, but the Reds stood firm and refused to sell.
The Uruguay international has however sealed a £75m move to Barcelona this summer and Gerrard admits it is still a blow to the team.
“You know what I think of him, I love him to bits and I’m his number one fan as a player,” Gerrard said. “I spoke to him before he went, and he was so thankful to the club for all the times they stuck by him.
“His dream all along, from the first day he came, was to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.
“Last summer, when he was out in the cold and training on his own, that’s the conversation I had with him. I said, ‘Don’t go to Arsenal.’
“With all due respect to them, I said to him that he was too good for Arsenal. I said, ‘If you score 30 goals for us and win the PFA Player of the Year, the press Player of the Year’ – and believe it or not I knew he was going to win them – ‘they will come back for you.’”
