CUPP reacts as Falana, Oby Ezekwesili, others form new political coalition

The Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has kicked against the inclusion of some of its members in the new political party floated on Wednesday by some prominent Nigerians.
Fidelis Chidi Blog reported earlier that about 30 prominent Nigerians formed a new political movement in the country.

In a communique issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the group unveiled its name as National Consultative Front.
Some of the members include: a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’abba; a prominent lawyer, Olisa Agbakoba; human rights lawyer, Femi Falana; ex-deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Obadiah Mailafia, and former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili.

CUPP said while it appreciates the fact that the alleged crass performance of the present administration must have led to the formation of the political party but stated that those associated with it(CUPP) at the meeting, attended in their individual capacities and not as its representatives.
CUPP, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, also wants its name to be removed from the list of member groups of the new coalition.
“CUPP leadership has never been consulted hence it will amount to misrepresentation in bad faith for these leaders to continue to use the name of CUPP.

“The CUPP has been a formidable opposition to the misruling party in government and have held them to account on behalf of the Nigerian people.
”Finally, we advise these eminent leaders that multiplicity of alliances has been proven by our political history and in several other climes to be the easiest way for the misruling party to win the opposition and continue in their unprecedented mismanagement of Nigeria and her resources.
“It is the hope of CUPP and many Nigerians that the facilitators of the new group should explore the workability of closing ranks with CUPP to chase away destroyers of our country rather than dividing the ranks of the opposition.

“The Opposition can only be victorious in 2023 General election when there is only one united front. Let us work together to defeat the common enemy that have destroyed our Country and made our People poorer,” CUPP’s statement said.
