LEVEL GOOD OOO......Asamoah Gyan rescinds Ghana retirement decision after presidential intervention

Ghanaian striker, Asamoah Gyan has rescinded his earlier decision to retire from the national team after a lengthy chat with President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday.


This comes a day after the 33-year-old announced his retirement from international football over a decision to strip him of the captain’s armband with Andre Ayew likely to be given the role at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Following his chat with the president, it was agreed that he will be the General Captain, while Andre Ayew will be named as team captain.

An official press release confirming his comeback into the national team is expected in the next few hours.

Eugene Arhin, Director of Communication at the Presidency confirmed the telephone interview between Gyan and the President in a post on Facebook.

In a post of Facebook, Eugene Arhin said "The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, this afternoon, held a meeting with the Minister for Youth and Sports, the President of the GFA Normalisation Committee, and the Chair of the Management Committee of the Senior National Football Team, the Black Stars.
The meeting, a continuation of the regular meetings the President holds with them, discussed, amongst others, the preparations being made towards AFCON 2019, and how to end Ghana’s AFCON trophy drought. 
President Akufo-Addo, subsequently, also spoke on the telephone with Asamoah Gyan, and informed him of the considerable national disquiet over his decision to retire from the Black Stars.
The President urged him, in the national interest, to rescind his decision to retire from the Black Stars, and make himself available for selection by Coach Kwasi Appiah".

Asamoah also confirmed in a statement that he is now available to play for his country at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Ghanaian footballer and former captain of Black Stars of Ghana,  Asamoah Gyan, has announced his retirement from international football just weeks to the start of the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

His decision comes as he was replaced as Ghana captain, with Andre Ayew likely to be given the role in Egypt.

The 33-year-old who plays as a striker for Turkish club Kayserispor issued a statement on Twitter through his Asamoah Gyan Foundation.

Part of his statement read: "As an active footballer yet to retire, I have been in the team since 2003 and have played with some members of the technical team who were my seniors. Through such periods, they were no times substantive captians were part of a team in a tournament and had to surrender their captaincy to other players and served in different capacities.
"I also wish to retire from the national team permanently."

Gyan who has been with the Black Stars for 16 years netted 51 goals in 106 international appearances.
