The resumed sitting at the Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly was disrupted this morning after five APC members in the house allegedly plotted to commence impeachment proceedings against the state governor, Emmanuel Udom.
The five lawmakers were the ones whose seats were recently declared vacant by the speaker of the House, Onofiok Luke. It was gathered that they arrived early at the assembly complex with thugs and heavily armed policemen and with a mace to commence the impeachment of the governor.
They allegedly chased everyone out, manhandled the press secretary to the speaker, Kufre Okon and headed straight to the chambers.
Former governor of the state, Godswill Akpabio, has been accused of being the mastermind of the crisis in the state house of Assembly.
Recall that in August, Akpabio defected from PDP to APC and expected his loyalists, the governor and those in the state house, to decamp with him to the ruling party. They however refused, affirming their position to remain in PDP. The state residents have alleged that Akpabio was behind all the crisis in the state house so he can install his own loyalists in key positions in the state.
