Falcons celebrating
AWCON
defending champions, Nigeria and South Africa have joined Mali and
Cameroon at the semi-finals of the competition, after the completion of
the group stage on Saturday.
The reigning African women’s footballer of the year, Asisat Oshoala
scored a hat-trick as Nigeria destroyed Equatorial Guinea 6-0 to
qualify for the semi-final of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).
Former Pitea forward, Francisca Ordega showed predatory instinct to net the first goal in the 11th minute of action.
It was soon 2-0 in the encounter as former Arsenal and Liverpool
star Oshoala was at the right place to score from a well-delivered
assist from Desire Oparanozie.
Oshoala proved her doubters wrong with a brilliant individual
performance in Cape Coast, scored two goals within the space of eight
minutes as the Falcons pulled away from the Nzalang Nacional.
The eight-time African champions went five goals up through former Wolfsburg star Oparanozie in the 48th minute.
Chikwelu further compounded the woes of Equatorial Guinea with the sixth goal of the one-sided game.
Nigeria will face Cameroon in the semi-final of the competition.
The top three teams of AWCON 2018 will represent Africa at the 2019 World Cup in France.
