Less than 24 hours after Alton Sterling was shot to death by Baton Rogue cops, another man Philando Castile, 32, died Wednesday night after being shot several times by a police officer in a suburb outside St. Paul, Minnesota.
The immediate aftermath of the shooting was streamed live on Facebook by Castile’s girlfriend Lavish Reynolds.
According to UK Independent, Reynolds’ four-year-old daughter was inside of the vehicle when the shooting took place.
According to Reynolds, they “got pulled
over for a busted tail light”. She said that Castile is “licensed to
carry” and was “trying to get out his ID” and “he let the officer know
he had a firearm, and he was reaching for his wallet, and the officer
just shot him. … He just shot his arm off”.
“Oh my God, don’t tell me he’s dead,
please don’t tell me my boyfriend just went like that,” she added after
Castile stopped moaning.
The officer was heard in the video yelling, “I told him not to reach for it. I told him to get his hand out.”
“Please, officer, don’t tell me he’s
gone; please don’t tell me that you did this to him. You shot four
bullets into him, sir,” she continued.
She was ordered to come out of the car, then arrested. An officer told her she is being detained while “this is all sorted out.”
Castile died at the Hennepin County Medical Center.
