NMA suspends services in Ekiti State....See why

The Nigerian Medical Association in the state has suspended emergency services across hospitals in the state.

The association said the move was to protest the kidnap of its members and continued receipt of threat letters by members from kidnappers.

The new Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, Mr. Etop John James, resumed on Tuesday with a promise to restore peace in the state.

The arrival of the new CP, who heads the special squad deployed in the state by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, followed a ‘Save Our Soul’ message by Governor Ayodele Fayose seeking the police boss’ urgent intervention in the rising wave of kidnappings in the state.


Three unidentified women were on Friday afternoon kidnapped by gunmen on their way to a wedding ceremony in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The whereabouts of the women remained unknown while contact had not been established with the families as of press time.

A lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr. Femi Omisore, Dr. Mrs Folasade Alade of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti; a senior nurse at the Federal Teaching Hospital Ido Ekiti, Mrs. Margaret Aladenika, and wife of the former Chief Medical Director of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, Dr. Mrs Kikelomo Adegun earlier kidnapped are still in the kidnappers den.

The new CP promised to listen to all legitimate groups in the state towards addressing the security challenges confronting the state.

He said, “Any group that is legitimate is free to talk to me. I will use all information I have now and I will listen to others. I am here to ensure peace. I was given only one mandate; it is to go and do police job. My duty is to ensure peace. Let everybody go about their lawful businesses.”

Addressing the CP on behalf of lawmakers-elect of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Pastor Kola Oluwawole pleaded with the police boss to ensure peace at all cost.

He said, “I want to plead with you that we want peace urgently in Ekiti. We want the peace we were enjoying to continue. All sorts of provocation, harsh press statements should stop, enough of kidnapping, armed robbery. 

“We want the estranged lawmakers to come back home and join hands to move the state forward.”
