APC Vice Presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, has replied Nigerians who say the party's Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, is out to Islamize Nigeria.

 

On July 10, Tinubu, a Muslim, announced he had picked the former Borno state governor who is also a Muslim as his running mate. His announcement was greeted with mixed reactions. While some applauded him, others, most especially Christians in the country frowned at his selection of a running mate. They wondered why he didn't pick a Christian since he is a Muslim. Some party members have even dumped the party because of his selection of a Muslim as a running mate.They argue that a Muslim-Muslim ticket in a religious country like Nigeria is unacceptable.

 

While receiving some party members on Friday, July 15, Shettima dismissed claims that Tinubu is out to Islamize Nigeria. He averred that Tinubu's wife who he has been married to for over 40 years is a Christian and a pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

 

''They are accusing him of an attempt of Islamizing Nigeria. Has he started with Islamizing his own family? Tinubu's running mate might be a Muslim but his life mate of over 40 years is not only a Christian but a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. He did not impose his Islamic faith on his own Children. He was the first governor to hand mission schools back to their owners.''he said
