former Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Sule Lamido, has advised the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom to emulate Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, and his predecessors in the state, Peter Odili, and Rotimi Amaechi, who showed maturity when they lost the presidential tickets of their parties.

 

Speaking in an interview with AriseTV, Lamido said that it is uncultured for a younger person like Wike to say that an elderly person like the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar is lying.

 

On Friday July 29, Wike while speaking to some journalists, said Atiku lied during his interview with Arise. He said the former Vice President lied when he was asked why he did not choose him, Wike, as his running mate. Read here.

 

Lamido urged Wike to know that the presidential primary is over and should accept the results in good fate as his fight is not against Atiku but the party. He said;

“A day to the PDP’s presidential convention, which Peter Odili of Rivers State was bound to win and was also bound to win the presidential election, he was stopped by the party which went on to nominate President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, who did not even show interest.

He was promised a vice presidential ticket and yet he was not given. He took everything as the mature man he is.

Look at the APC, Vice President Osinbajo was humiliated; the Senate president was also humiliated and even his countryman, Amaechi was given the same treatment; they took it as mature men and did not go about complaining as Wike is doing. This is called maturity.

Do you know why? This is because the party is supreme. You cannot be bigger than your party. Party is organic. The convention has come and gone. Osinbajo, Lawan and Amaechi have shown maturity because their party has spoken. If Wike is in the APC will he be talking and behaving as he is doing now?

When I say that the party is supreme, I mean that the PDP is an organic party. Many people defected to the APC in 2015, but the PDP remained strong because it is organic with root structures; it is not a one-man party.

Wike should show maturity as the matter is no longer between him and Atiku. Atiku is now the PDP candidate; whatever he is doing now is not a fight against Atiku but the party. The party made him.”

Let him learn from his former boss, Peter Odili. He will tell him a story that is so touching because I have never seen a person who was cheated on and who was so denied as Peter Odili.

The man is so humble, so tolerant. I mean he is everything good. Wike offered himself to be elected. I came from the old order that respects political party culture. His candidate for the governorship in Rivers State was imposed by him. Others wanted to be governor; have they reconciled? The guy he imposed won the governorship ticket at the congress. Who offended Wike? Did the convention offend Wike? How? There is no reconciliation. He is a party man and after the convention, he said the process was very credible. He said so.”

 

On the claim by Wike that Atiku lied, Lamido said

 

“Even at that, it is against our culture to openly call an elder a liar. It is not part of our culture – or to call some people his attack dogs. If he has not been using attack dogs on some persons, how does he know that others are attack dogs? Wike should show maturity.''

WIKE SAYS ATIKU IS A LIAR

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Friday, claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, allegedly made false statements during his recent interview on Arise TV.

This is as he also confirmed that contrary to reports, the former Vice president was yet to begin a reconciliation move despite claims on pages of newspapers that a committee had been set up to meet with him.

Wike stated this while briefing journalists at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

“He (Atiku) appeared on Arise Television, see the statement he made. So many lies were told and you said I should not react to some of those issues. That would not be fair,” Wike claimed.

The Fidelis Chidi Blog reports that the crisis in the PDP deepened Atiku chose the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate ahead of Wike whom many party chieftains had believed would emerge as the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate.

The PUNCH reports that the crisis in the PDP deepened Atiku chose the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate ahead of Wike whom many party chieftains had believed would emerge as the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate.

Those who opposed Atiku’s choice include the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom. “I am waiting for him (Atiku) because there are more things he is expected to do. I expected him to reach out to Wike who came second and he denied him the popular view of PDP members.

“14 out of 17 members say that Wike should be the VP but in his wisdom, he chose Governor Okowa. Governor Okowa is a nice man and my friend and I have no problem with him.

“But if we are in a democratic era, and 14 people out of 17 said that it should be Wike, and he (Atiku) in his wisdom gave it to Okowa, I expect more explanation, I expect him to talk to Wike first, I expect him to even reach out to some of us so that together we can work as a party,” Ortom said.

But speaking in an exclusive interview with Arise TV which was aired last week Friday, Atiku said he chose who he felt could deliver among the nominees that were presented to him.

He added that Wike was not rejected and that he only picked who could deliver 

Atiku said, “I didn’t reject Wike, I picked who can deliver. Wike is brilliant and tenacious. Going by history, I picked an Igbo as running mate in 2007, in 2019. I still picked an Igbo as running mate for 2023.

“The committee that presented the three nominees was chaired by the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom. They recommended three people, so I picked one. People should be fair to me and state the facts.”

However, in his first reaction to the controversy after Okowa’s emergence on Saturday, Wike who tweeted via his official Twitter handle @GovWike noted that he would soon speak on recent happenings in the party.

“I will speak soon and Nigerians will know the actual truth of all that has transpired in the PDP in recent times,” the Rivers governor said.

However, while addressing journalists on Friday, Wike said it was surprising that the party’s presidential candidate was making false statement regarding him after the primaries.

“You can imagine, the presidential candidate of the PDP Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, when he unveiled vice presidential candidate, no right thinking lover of this party would say that the speech he made on that day was fair.

“Assuming today, I’m not alive, obviously what they have said would be accepted as the truth. Look at his (Atiku) attack dogs, Sule Lamido, Babaginda Aliyu, Maina Waziri. Look at the statements they issued. Look at the abuses they rained on me, but I never reacted.

“And Nigerians will ask, you mean these things happened? So, it is important that as a person and for my own future, and for those who rally around me to say, look, this is not fair. So, I will make sure that I will react to them, line by line of the statements made by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar himself and his attack dogs.”

He added, “Look at it, a presidential candidate who believes that he wants to win election, and somebody who contested fiercely with him that has never raised any issue. I just kept quiet, just minded my business, to see how my state can move forward.

But every day, his people come up to attack me, to say one thing or the other. That’s quite unfair and so I should let Nigerians know at the appropriate time which will be after the commissioning of projects that we have lined up.

“We will say look this is not correct, so that posterity, history will be on our side that we have been able to keep the record straight. So, nobody should be in doubt whether I am going to speak on the issue of PDP, issues of the primaries and other related matters.

“Nigerians will know what happen, Nigerians will know those who love this country, Nigerians will know what went behind. And that is to assure you am going to speak on that,” he stated.

Renowned Flutist Tee Mac on APC’s Presidential Candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu; “He’s My Inlaw and he’s 86 years old. He’s not fit to Run Nigeria” 

Renowned flutist Tee Mac has garnered attention on Facebook by sharing his thought on the Presidential Candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

 

Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli, a former President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), said he and Remi Tinubu are cousins and this makes her husband Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu his in-law but he stopped supporting Tinubu and stopped visiting the family.

 

He made this known while responding to a Facebook user, Yemi Olakitan, who declared his support for the APC Presidential flag bearer.

 

Tee Mac also said that Tinubu is 86 years old and not 70.

 

He wrote: "Dear Yemi. Any body can choose any candidate, but an intelligent person will ask himself the question: do I choose rightly! Is the man qualified! Is he honest! Edo-based Clergyman, Apostle Johnson Suleiman, has reacted to claims that he is diabolic and has had extramarital affairs with a number of actresses, both home and abroad.

 

Reports were rife online this week with claims that the clergyman who was enmeshed in a sex-scandal involving a Canadian-based lady, Stephanie Otobo, a few years ago, is diabolic. A list of the actresses he has allegedly had an affair with was also passed around.

 

Responding to the allegation, Suleiman who was preaching in a crusade, described the people peddling the rumor as ''Fools''.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has apologized following the backlash that trailed a tweet in which he shared photos of himself attending a leadership course at Harvard University in the United States of America. 

 

Gbajabiamila suffered a backlash from Nigerians who accused him of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerian students currently suffering from the shutdown of academic activities in public universities due to the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other unions.

 

Apologizing via his official Twitter account, the House of Representatives Speaker admitted that sharing the tweet as insensitive. He went on to list some of his efforts to ensure the face-off between lecturers and the federal government is resolved. 

 

Gbajabiamila tweeted; 

 

“Yesterday, I posted a picture of myself at the @Harvard @Kennedy_School, undergoing a course. That post was not sensitive to the present feelings of fellow citizens, especially parents and students who are presently bearing the brunt of the ongoing closure of public universities owing to the unresolved issues between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“I apologize for the post at this time, and I hope you will understand that it was not my intention to cause disaffection. As Speaker of @HouseNGR,I have made multiple interventions within the powers of the legislature to avert the ongoing strike.I had direct engagements with ASUU..relevant government agencies.

“The House of Representatives is still keenly involved in seeking a resolution to the issues so our students can return to school. We all await the outcome of the 2-week ultimatum given for the conclusion of negotiations with ASUU.

“I have long been a champion of public education in Nigeria, and I have consistently advocated programs, policies and investments to improve the quality of public education in the country.

There is no government in part of the world that solves all the problems in the country - Femi Adesina replies Nigerians who say President Buhari has failed because of insecurity

The Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has replied Nigerians who say the Buhari-led administration has failed due to the alarming rate of insecurity in the country,

 

In an interview with Channels TV on Wednesday evening July 27, Adesina said no government solves all the problems in the country. According to him, it has never happened and it will never happen. He said;

''Yes the party (APC) promised that it will secure the country and if you listen to the President everytime, he talks about his three priorities for Nigeria right from his first term, to his second term and now to 10 months to the end of the administration, he would say 1, we would secure the country, 2. revive the econoy, 3. we will fight corruption. Those three still remain as his topmost priorities. 

In security, consider the first year in the administration. Was it the same way as it was inherited? No! There was an improvement. In fact, the insurgency was beaten up to the point it was said that Boko Haram has been technically degraded.

But later there was a resurgence. Not only in resurgence, but it also became Hydra-headed. The insurgency was the main problem in 2015, later banditry joined, later kidnapping joined, later kidnapping joined, and later cult killings joined. It became hydra-headed. 

So, you don't begin to say a government has failed for a problem that suddenly spiraled out of control. Security is a challenge. 10 months, one day to the end of the administration anything can still happen. A lot can still happen. You don't begin to conclude that it has failed on security when its time is not up yet. For all you know, in one week or two months, this problem may be over. It can get done. That is how we should be, positive-minded. 

And of course, there are successes in different areas like infrastructure, agriculture, social security, many others.. so you don't take just one issue and use it to conclude that the government has failed. It is never done. There is no government in part of the world that solves all the problems in the country. It has never happened and it will never happen''

Muslim-Muslim ticket is against the unity of the country and CAN's position is godly - Former Speaker of House of Reps, Yakubu Dogara

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and member of the All Progressives Congress, Yakubu Dogara has kicked against his party's Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for 2023 election. 

 

Speaking at a symposium on the leadership crises in Nigeria, which was held in Abuja as part of activities marking the 12th General Assembly of CAN, Dogara said CAN's position on the presidential ticket is godly as the Muslim-Muslim ticket is against the unity of the country.

 

He said; 

 

“I want to say emphatically that CAN’s position on the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in this country, at this moment of national peril, is not just CAN’s or that of Babachir Lawal, whom many have accused of being the only one who has turned it into an issue.

“I believe it (the rejection of same-faith ticket) is also the Almighty’s own position, because we serve a God of justice. He is the righteous one as well as the author of diversity, and he wants us, as diverse as we are, to come together.

“So, CAN’s stance is the position of all of us (Christian political leaders) who love righteousness, justice as well as diversity and are working to harness these for the advancement of this country.

“In as much as what we are fighting for is a godly position, every other position is ungodly. There’s no middle-way. It is either you are for righteousness, justice and inclusivity or you are working against the unity of this great country.”

RIP MY GUY.....Friend mourns bank official killed in Abia bullion van robbery attack

The bank cash officer who was killed in a bullion van robbery attack in Abia State has been identified as Igwe .O. Igwe. 

 

The incident occurred at about 1:13pm on Tuesday, July 26, at Ntigha junction along the Port Harcourt-Enugu Highway in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of the state.

 

The bullion van, which was escorted by six policemen, was conveying cash from a commercial bank in Aba to Umuahia when it ran into an ambush by armed robbers.

 

Following the ambush, the armed robbers opened fire on the van while the driver swerved into the bush. The gunmen later shot and killed the banker, although the driver fled the scene.

 

In a swift reaction, the police escorts engaged the armed robbers in a shootout, leading to the death of one of the criminals while his AK 47 rifle and three magazines strapped together were recovered.

 

A friend of the deceased banker, Paschal took to Facebook on Thursday, to mourn him.

 

"This can't be true !!!!! Igwe O. Igwe !!!! King noooooooo Rip my man. Your crime was that you escorted your bank bullion van from aba to umuahia and you were killed by armed robbers," he wrote.
