Coronavirus: Zimbabwe records first death as 30-year-old journalist dies
Zimbabwe has recorded its first death from Coronavirus.
A 30-year-old journalist identified as Zororo Makamba became the first person in the country to die from COVID-19.
Health Minister, Obadiah Moyo confirmed that the 30-year-old died at Wilkins Hospital in Harare, two days after he was diagnosed of the disease.
Zimbabwe’s information minister, Monica Mutsvangwa also expressed shock over the death of Zororo.
Zororo, few days after he returned to his home in Harare on March 9 from New York started exhibiting mild flu-like symptoms, Mutsvangwa said.
“Makamba on arrival at the hospital developed severe respiratory distress and was kept in isolation under supervision from health practitioners.
“Authorities are now tracing people who came into contact with him.
“As we mourn him the whole nation should take the threat of COVID 19 very seriously. Let’s all follow due medical precautions as announced by the Ministry of Health and by the World Health Organization,” Mutsvangwa said.
Meanwhile, Nigeria on Monday also recorded its first death case of Coronavirus.
A man in his 60’s revealed to be a former Managing Director of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Suleiman Achimugu was confirmed dead on Monday.
