Yesterday, we reported that Governor Ortom’s rice farm which is located at Gbajimba in Guma Local Government area of
Benue State, was burnt by herdsmen.
According
to Governor Ortom’s rice farm manager, Hon. Kena Iordzua, the herdsmen
came to the farm with a large number of cattle during the day and ended
up setting the farm on fire at 3 different points.
It was gathered
that the fire wasn’t put off even with concerted effort by those
working on the farm, due to harmattan. However when security operatives
were mobilized to go after the herdsmen, they shot sporadically as they
retreated towards the Nasarawa State border.
The
farm manager who estimated the burnt portion of the rice farm to be 250
hectares, puts the loss at N100 million. Here are photos below;
