 Shehu Shagari has been buried, the ex-president was committed to the earth at some minutes past 3pm in his town in Sokoto State on Saturday.


His body was committed to the earth at some minutes past 3pm in Shagari town in Sokoto State on Saturday.
Afterwards, special prayers were offered for the soul of the late President.
Present at the event were President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, as well as politicians, elderstatesmen, friends and well wishers of the departed.
Shagari died at the National Hospital Abuja on Friday after a brief illness.

The late ex-President’s grandson, Nuradeen Mahe disclosed that the late President was moved to the National Hospital, Abuja on December 25, when “his health worsened, but he later died after being attended to by medical experts.”
The former president ruled Nigeria between 1979 to 1983.
Shagari, who won his second term election was, however, overthrowned by a coup d’etat that brought in Muhammadu Buhari as Military Head of State.

Boss Mustapha, secretary of the Government of the Federation led the Federal Government delegation to the burial of former President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari in Sokoto today.

Shagari, 93, was laid to rest in his hometown, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto state at about 3.30 pm. The funeral prayer was led by Professor Shehu Galadanchi, former Vice Chancellor, Usmanu Dan Fodiyo University Sokoto.

Shagari’s corpse arrived at the Sultan Abubakar Airport, Sokoto earlier and was received by Governor Aminu Tambuwal, alongside members of the state executive council.

Other dignitaries that attended the funeral prayers included governors of Kebbi and Zamfara states, former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa, former Independent National Electoral Commission chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, Senator Aliyu Wamakko and former Minister, Mukhtar Shagari.
