The insurgents had in recent times intensified attacks on military bases and overran a military base in Kukareta, a village located about 20 kilometres to Damaturu, Yobo state, where they killed 13 soldiers and a police officer.
“There has been wild celebration in Goniri currently, none of the insurgents ran away. They were all killed. Their countless bodies are everywhere right now,” said a security source.
In a related development, the Nigerian Air Force has given a detailed account of how the Air Task Force, ATF, of Operation LAFIYA DOLE and Allied Air Forces provided air support to repel the attack by Boko Haram in Baga. The fishing town was attacked by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, on the evening of December 26.
Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, gave the account, detailing the dozens of aerial strikes against the positions of the terrorists.
