Hehe....i go like stay abroad prison oooo.....The Federal Government has expressed its readiness to receive Nigerians who are serving various jail terms in different prison formations across the world in viewof the Prison Transfer Agreement, PTA, signed with the governments of the concerned countries. This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Comptroller-General, C-G, of the Nigeria Prisons Service, NPS, Dr. Peter Ekpendu when the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd) and officials of the UK Embassy in Nigeria carried out an inspection tour of the Kuje Medium Security Prisons in Abuja .Erstwhile Governor of Delta state, Chief James Ibori is among
Nigerians who are currently serving jail terms in the United Kingdom, UK.In the words of Ekpendu, “Our prisons are ready. We are ready to receive the prisoners anytime they are brought back.”Earlier, Gen. Dambazau said this of the PTA, “the prisoners exchange agreement is quite at an advanced stage but there area lot of issues involved. One we have to beclear that legally, in terms of the rights of the prisoner, we don’t violate any and there are still other issues that we are considering.”While debunking the speculation that government was concentrating on developing the Kuje Prisons as it normally hosts high-profile inmates, he explained that, “concentration is not just on Kuje prisons but some prisons in other states including the Kirikiri prisons.“We are hoping that by the time the budgetis signed and we get our releases, we are going to embark on renovation of some prisons, capacity building and reinforcement of security.”
