Fidelis Chidi blog gathered that the convoy of the governor was ambushed by the hoodlums who were allegedly trying to avenge last Monday's burning of Modu Sherrif's campaign office during the Campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.
Meanwhile, the chairman of APC in the state, Ali Bukar Dalori, has blamed the attack on the governor's convoy allegedly on Modu Sheriff, alleging that during the unprovoked attack, about 10 vehicles in the convoy were smashed.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Dalori alleged that the attack was carefully planned allegedly on the apparent endorsement of Sheriff.
Dalori explained that the governor was on visit of different hospitals in the state capital, “offering support to patients before his convoy was attacked while returning to the Government House located at the G.R.A.”
According to Dalori, “the thugs came out from a campaign office belonging to Sheriff called UTC and soon after the Governor's official vehicle had passed, the thugs went after vehicles in the convoy, smashing wheel screens.
“Soon after, he was informed while the attack was happening, Shettima was said to have ‎ordered his security details to restrain their men from using fire arms or any form of assault in order not to heighten tension in the State and compromise the ongoing counter insurgency operations.
“From all indication, these youths were sent by SAS (as the former governor is popularly called), we know some of them, they are his boys. He created thuggery in Borno State when he was a governor, this administration is creating jobs and building human capacity to discourage thuggery but SAS wants to take us to the era of thuggery.”
Speaking further in the statement, Dalori said: “We live in Maiduguri, we are the people that stand to loose if peace is truncated, SAS lives in Abuja with houses all over the world, so he will not care if Maiduguri goes in flames. All the violence he is orchestrating is aimed at stopping elections in Borno State but God will never allow evil succeed over good.
“We won't allow him succeed, we will take every lawful step available to us. Whether he likes it or not, his era has passed in Borno State, nothing can change that history insha Allah. We call on the Federal Government to call SAS to order. If he is above the law, the FG should tell us but we will not be lawless and we will not allow him have his way.”
The former governor and his campaign team leaders could not be reached for their reactions to the allegation when filing this report.
