Five persons lost their lives in a motor accident along Benin-Asaba expressway in Edo state, on Monday. According to reports, the accident occurred at Ogwai river, a few kilometres from Benin City.

The black SUV conveying the victims, reportedly somersaulted several times before it plunged into the river with the occupants. The victims died before a rescue team arrived the scene of the accident. While the cause of the accident could not be ascertained, operatives of the FRSC who arrived the scene with their towing vehicles for a rescue operation, said the victims were traveling from Lagos to eastern part of Nigeria, adding that the driver must have lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the accident. The bodies of the victims was pulled out of the river and taken to a mortuary.
