Despite the ceasefire agreement between the federal government and the Boko Haram insurgents, there is still tension in the troubled North East Nigeria, as the insurgents on Tuesday ambushed troops of the Nigeria army along the dangerous Maiduguri-Biu highway, killing one of the soldiers, Premium Times report says.
According to a security source, the gunmen had laid ambush for the soldiers at a spot close to Damboa and subsequently opened fire on them.
The attack appeared like a retaliation over the killing of their members during the Sunday night encounter in Damboa.
“Our troops were on their way to Damboa this morning when the insurgents ambushed them. We lost one soldier,” the source said.
A top security Officer disclosed the attack but prefers not to be named.
