When I was a young lecturer at the University of Lagos, teaching Public Law, the department had three typists: the chief typist, the senior typist, and the junior typist.

Back then, before laptops and personal computers, typists were the backbone of academic work. Every lecture note, research paper, and official document had to be typed manually.

But here’s what I observed:

🔹 The chief typist disappeared when work piled up—strictly a 4 p.m. worker.

🔹 The senior typist? Nowhere to be found.

🔹 But the junior typist, a man named Adereni, with only a school certificate, was different. Hardworking. Dedicated. I often dropped him off at home at 1 a.m.

Years later, while serving as an adviser to the Attorney General of the Federation, I got a call from Hon. Bola Ajibola (who later became a judge at the World Court in The Hague).

He needed a diligent, hardworking secretary to assist with long legal judgments. I had three choices: chief typist, senior typist, or Adereni—the junior typist with just a school certificate.

I chose Adereni.

He went to The Hague, worked so diligently that every judge wanted him on their team. Eventually, he moved his family there, earned degrees, and built a successful life.

One day, he remembered me.

And sent me a car.

Lesson?

Someone is always watching.

Hard work never goes unnoticed.

DTSG Inaugurates E-HEART Project Steering Committee Members

 

The State Government says it is committed to improving the lives of Deltans and residents of the State by providing the needed infrastructure to better their living conditions.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Dr. Kingsley Emu made this known when he inaugurated members of the State Energizing, Health Education, Agriculture Rural Communities and Transportation (e-HEART) Project Steering Committee by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in his office.

Dr. Emu stated that the the REA is looking to undertake off-grid 

renewable green energy based solutions to argument the energy shortage being experienced in the country. 

He disclosed that the Project is World Bank funded and also that the State was one of the few States chosen  as a pilot scheme with the primary focus on primary health care facilities in the State with the view to enhance efficiency and service delivery in the health sector. 

Dr. Emu charged the members to be up and doing to ensure they deliver on the Committee's mandate.

Those inaugurated into the E-HEART Project Steering Committee are the Commissioner for Energy, who will serve as Chairman, Commissioners for Health, Education, Agriculture, Transport and Rural Infrastructure as members. 

Other members are the State Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria(ALGON), and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, will serve as Secretary.

A Catholic priest has taken it upon himself to disprove the "lies of Ebuka Obi". 

Rev. Father Nwebe Joy said he is accepting the virginity challenge made by Ebuka Obi to Catholic Priests. 

Prophet Ebuka Obi, who was raised Catholic and now has his own ministry outside the Catholic Church, claims he is a virgin. Of late, he has accused Catholic priests of trying to bring him down. After a false testimony given at his church was exposed recently, Ebuka Obi insinuated it was Catholic priests from the "East" that are trying to bring down his ministry. 

He further challenged Catholic priests to prove that they are virgins like him. 

Responding, Father Nwebe Joy took up the challenge and asked anyone – male or female – who can claim they have slept with him to come forward.

Two minors shot as SS3 students and community youths clash over girlfriend in Niger state

 

Two minors, Imaran Hassan, 11, and Nura Jibrin, 10, have reportedly sustained bullet wounds following a violent clash involving students of Annur Islamic Model School in Chaichainiya and some youths near Zuma Bread Bakery in Suleja, Niger State.

 

The clashed which occurred on Thursday night reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a girl.

 

"After Tarawih prayers, what started as a dispute over a girlfriend turned into a serious fight around 9:30 p.m.,” a source who requested anonymity said.

 

The source added that Umar Idris, an SS3 student, led his colleagues to the area, armed with weapons, and engaged in the violent confrontation.

 

During the clash, Hassan and Jibrin were hit by bullets in their thighs, though the shots reportedly came from unknown directions.

 

Policemen and vigilantes were later mobilised to restore order and evacuate the injured minors to Suleja General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

 

“Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, while police and school officials are working closely to apprehend other students involved,” the source added.

 

The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the incident stated that 11 suspects were arrested in Chaichainiya, along Kaduna Road.

 

“On 6/3/2025 at about 11pm, reports were received that youths and some secondary students were fighting at Chaichainiya area of Kaduna road over issues of lovers by one Umar Idris of the same area,” the PPRO said.

 

“It was reported that during the incident, gunshots were heard from different directions which hit two victims on their laps; one Nura and Imrana, both 10 and 11 years, respectively,”

 

Abiodun further disclosed that during a covert police operation, 11 suspects, including Umar Idris, were arrested and are currently under investigation.

 

He added that findings revealed an officer of a sister security agency was responsible for the shooting that injured the two minors.

 

“Meanwhile, investigation is being intensified for further necessary action, and further development will be made known to be public.”
