Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has shared a painful story about how years of living apart and his efforts to provide a better life for his family have affected his marriage.
According to Okey Bakassi, he sent his wife to the United States to study nursing, and she took their children along with her. Meanwhile, he remained in Nigeria, earning in naira while paying her school fees, covering their rent, and supporting his family abroad.
He said he spent 15 years working and sending money overseas to pay school fees, rent, and other expenses, believing he was doing his best to provide for his wife and children and give them a better future.
However, he revealed that his wife called him last week, after completing her studies and securing a well-paying job, to ask for a divorce.
Her reason was heartbreaking. She told him that they no longer really had a marriage because they had been living apart for more than a decade.
