Lawmakers weep over insecurity in Katsina

Two lawmakers from President Muhammadu Buhari's home state, wept openly on Monday August 23 over the recent attacks in communities across Katsina state.

Dalhatu-Tafoki, member representing Faskari state constituency during a plenary presided over by speaker of the state house of assembly Tasi’u Maigari, said communities are still experiencing attacks despite the effort of the federal and state governments, as well as security agencies.

Tafoki asked government authorities and the security agencies to re-strategise, while praying for peace to return in the state. He said;

“There is a serious need for the security outfits in the state to increase their outposts across the state, especially the most affected areas.

“The outposts in those areas are not enough. They cannot overpower the bandits, despite the huge amounts of money being spent on them.”

Haruna Goma, the lawmaker representing Dandume constituency who narrated how 11 people were killed while others were abducted in a recent attack on two communities in Dandume, began crying half-way into his speech and also pleaded for government's aid to the affected community.

Abubakar Mohammed, the lawmaker representing Funtua constituency, also cried while narrating how communities have been under constant attacks by bandits who have killed and also kidnapped many.

After other lawmakers contributed to the issue of insecurity in the state, the state house of assembly resolved to hold a meeting with federal lawmakers from Katsina, as well as the state government, on efforts to address insecurity.

They also resolved to meet with security agencies and the state’s committee on security on ways to restore peace to troubled areas.
