The proclamation letter is issued by a state governor for the inauguration of a new state House of Assembly.
The Edo state House of Assembly which is filled with only APC members, has been enmeshed in crisis since its controversial inauguration on June 17th. The state governor issued a proclamation letter which saw the inauguration of 9 out of the 24 members at about 10pm on the said day. While 9 members of the state assembly are loyal to the state governor, the remaining 15 lawmakers are loyal to the chairman of the party and former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomole. The lawmakers loyal to Oshiomole kicked against the inauguration, petitioning the National Assembly to investigate the matter. The senate constituted an adhoc committee to investigate the crisis and also come up with recommendations.
The committee which was headed by Senator Sani Abdullahi, today submitted their recommendations.
Adopting the recommendation of the Abdullahi-led adhoc committee, the senate nullified the June 17th inauguration and ordered the state governor to issue a fresh proclamation letter for a proper inauguration. The Senate also ordered the Clerk of the Edo House of Assembly to inform all 24 members elect via electronic/print media of the new inauguration date after receiving the proclamation letter from the governor.
The senate also resolved that if the proclamation is not made in one week, the national assembly shall take over the functions of the Edo State House of Assembly.
