Senator Dino Melaye has unveiled his poster for the Kogi State governorship race.
The Senator representing Kogi west senatorial district released the official photo on his Instagram page on Sunday, June 2.
Melaye,
reportedly made the declaration to run for the post of the office of
the governor in Kogi on Saturday during a meeting of Kogi West PDP
executives held yesterday at his country home in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu
local government area of the state, Premium Times reports. His media aide, Gideon Ayodele, told Daily Trust on Sunday that his boss made the declaration during the meeting which held at the residence of Gen. David Jemibewon (rtd), an ex-Service Chief.
“The senator while soliciting the supports of the party executives, expressed optimism of emerging the next governor of the state,” he said.
With this declaration, Melaye has joined the hordes of PDP governorship aspirants jostling to wrestle power from governor Yahaya Bello.
No fewer than 40 aspirants are said to have indicated interest to contest the governorship election under the platform of the PDP.
If he emerges as PDP candidate, the senator will go head-to-head with his bitter rival and current governor of the state, Yahaya Bello. This also depends on if the ruling APC decides to field the governor as its candidate.
“At this point, Senator Dino Melaye stood up and informed the meeting of his intention to join the race to Lugard House, the seat of Kogi State government come November,” Mr Ayodele said.Mr Melaye, a controversial senator, is being prosecuted by the police for allegedly aiding violence in Kogi and for allegedly attempting to commit suicide while being taken to Kogi by the police.
The Kogi governorship election holds on November 16.
