Two men kidnap corpse of 90-year-old woman, demand N5m ransom

Two men who kidnapped the corpse of a 90-year-old woman, have been arrested by police officers attached to the Imo State Police Command.


The suspects Chukwudi Chukwu and Bethel who kidnapped the corpse of a woman from Ikeduru LGA, Imo state, demanded a N5m ransom. The two men who threatened to keep the corpse of the the 90-year-old woman till the ransom was paid, stole the corpse from Jesus Hospital’s Mortuary located at Akabor, Ikeduru.
Recall that few months ago a 27-year-old man, Aaron Mubo, appeared in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over the alleged kidnap of a septuagenarian and demand of N5 million ransom for his release.

Mubo who was standing trial on a two-count of kidnap and demanding ransom, pleaded not guilty. The Prosecutor, Seargent Kehinde Omisakin, had told the court that the accused committed the offences in Epe-Ikorodu.
Omisakin said that the suspect kidnapped Adeola Ogunyemi, 72, and demanded for a N5 million ransom from his family members to secure his release. She said the offences contravened Sections 2 and 3 of the Kidnapping Prohibition Law of Lagos State, 2017.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Komolafe, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. Komolafe ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, and adjourned the case until May 16 for hearing.

There was also a report of a 95-year-old man, Pa Azuoma Akagha, and his 13-year-old granddaughter Chiamaka, who were kidnapped in Irete, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State. A relative of the victims, who pleaded for anonymity, said they were abducted about 6.30 pm.
He said: “When the gunmen entered into our compound, they saw Papa sitting down and asked for his granddaughter who was inside the house. They grabbed her, took them to their car and sped off.”
