One of the 57 suspected homosexuals arrested at a hotel in Lagos has revealed he's HIV positive but denied being a gay.
20-year-old James Brown was one of the suspects who was picked up on Sunday at 2 a.m. while they were allegedly performing gay initiation rites for newly recruited members.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi who confirmed the arrest on Monday, revealed that some youths were to be initiated into a Gay/Homosexual Club between 1 a.m and 2 a.m. at Kelly Ann Hotel/Events Centre, located at No. 3-7, Adenrele St., Egbeda.
Speaking with journalists, James Brown who is a dancer said they were attending a birthday party and that he is not a homosexual.
The young man who was at the event to perform revealed that during the parade in Lagos, he told the police that he is HIV positive and yet they arrested him and labelled him gay.
When asked how he contacted HIV, he said that he got from birth (through his mother).
The young man said; “I went there to work and get paid. The party was on Saturday and it is (was) meant to be overnight. I was arrested and have been denied to even take my drugs which is for medical reasons.”
James Brown also added that they were about 25 girls at the birthday venue but the police left them to arrest the guys and labelled them gays.
According to him, he regrets the day he was born in this country.
