This morning, Nigerians woke up to the news and pictures of Yinka Ayefele's radio house in Ibadan being demolished by the Oyo State government.
As reactions to the development continues, this 2016 radio interview with Governor Ajimobi who had just been re-elected for his second term in office re-surfaced online.
In the interview, Governor Ajimo visited the Yinka Ayefele Music House and granted an interview to Fresh FM located inside the building where he revealed that some people within his cabinet were urging him to demolish the radio station because Yinka Ayefele does not support them.
He was quoted saying, “Thank God we didn’t heed the advice to demolish this building. I thank God I didn’t demolish this building. And I can say this is the best radio station I have visited in Oyo State'.
Today, we all woke to the shocking report of the demolition of the music house/radio station (Fresh FM, Ibadan), owned by broadcaster and singer, Yinka Ayefele.
Before the building got demolished, the edifice had in its belly, two magnificent halls, an internet radio station, a standard studio and several offices. It also provided job for about 100 people and that placed it among top employers of labor in Oyo State.

Yinka Ayefele on the other hand, has said that he obtained the necessary documents and due approvals before he constructed his multi-million naira structure that was razed by the Oyo State Government around 4.30 on Sunday morning.

In a statement made by Ayefele and obtained by Punch’s correspondent, the musician stated that necessary building permits were obtained from government for the construction of the building. He also called on the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Toye Arulogun, to “refrain from misleading the public” concerning the reasons for the demolition.
Ayefele reiterated that necessary documents were obtained on the building and that a discussion relating to the establishment of a central abattoir by the state government could be behind the demolition. He added that the FM station belonged to the people and that he had left everything to God.
Yinka Ayefele, on his Facebook page after the demolition, said: “Oyo State Government did at last…..my pains, my sweat…So help me God.”

Some of the early callers at the scene of the demolished building were Seyi Makinde, a PDP governorship aspirant and Wasiu Olatunbosun, the Secretary of Unity Forum, a splinter group in the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress. Also present at the scene was Olusegun Olaleye representing Ibadan North State Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
