heheheh........Joint
Communique Issued at the End of an Emergency Meeting of the Nigerian
Medical Association (NMA), Medical and Dental Consultants Association of
Nigeria (MDCAN) and the National Association of Resident Doctors of
Nigeria (NARD) on the Recent increase of Examination Fees by the
National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) held on
Thursday 22nd June 2017 at the NMA National Secretariat, Abuja.
Attendence:
1. Dr. Kingsley Enweremadu (NMA VP1/Acting President)
2. Dr. Nicholas Baamlong (Chairman, NMA Residency Training Committee)
3. Dr. Sani Balarabe Garko (MDCAN President)
4. Dr. John Onyebueze U. (NARD President)
5. Dr. Emmanuel Aneka (NARD Secretary General)
Observation
The Meeting observed the following:
1. That there has been over 100% increase on the NPMCN examination fees with October 2017 examination.
2. That this increment was arbitrary.
3.
That the increment is at variance with the sponsorship for the
examination and remuneration which have been declining and irregular.
4.
That the increment will create untold hardship to the candidates as
well militate against specialist qualification in nigeria.
After extensive deliberations, the following resolutions were made:
1.
We appeal that the new NPMCN examination fees should be stepped down
for now considering the present economic realities in the country.
2.
We also appeal that the previous NPMCN examination fees should apply to
the October 2017 examinations for now and the deadline for payment of
the examinations extended to 14th August 2017 to enable candidates time
to pay.
3. Failure to heed to the above appeal, NMA will have no option than to direct her members to boycott the exams.
Appreciation:
The
house appreciated that leadership of NMA and MDCAn for the prompt
response and appealed to her to contiune the fatherly role in ensuring
quality medical education and good of the doctors in the country.
