The
senate today gave an order to the Independent National Electoral
Commission INEC to conduct all inconclusive National Assembly elections
in Rivers state on or before December 10th.
The senate while deliberating on a bill on INEC, threatened to suspend
its plenary if the electoral body fails to act according to its order.
Senator Magnus Abe, the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate
for the Rivers South-East Senatorial District has hailed the National
Assembly for directing the Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) to conclude all re-run elections in the country by December 10.
Abe, in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Parry Benson, said
the directive was necessary because the legislative duration had been
cut short due to the delay.
Abe said that the postponement of the elections was no fair to the people of Rivers.
He urged the state government to provide a conducive environment for the election.
Abe assured that he was prepared to cooperate with INEC and other stakeholders to have a peaceful, free and fair election.
