SEE UNOFFICIAL RESULTS OF ONDO ELECTION and Situation Reports

Today, November 26, the electorates in Ondo, the Sunshine State would march to polling booths across the state to elect the next Chief Servant of the State.
The eventual winner of today’s contest would take over the mantle of leadership from Olusegun ‘Iroko’ Mimiko next year.

Mimiko is expected to take the exit door from the government house, Alagbaka next year having successfully completed his two terms as enshrined in the constitution.
The electoral body had released names of 28 successful candidates who have indicated interest in becoming the next governor of the State.
The battle is, therefore, drawn along this line.
However, among the 28 contenders, three persons have been tipped for the position.
Among the three top candidates are: Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress, Olusola Oke of the Allaince for Democracy and Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party, who is having the backing of the outgoing governor, Olusegun Mimiko.
Today’s election is likely to witness a massive turnout as electorates are already at their polling booths waiting for electoral materials from INEC officials.
Similarly, heavily armed security officials are already in town to forestall any outbreak of violence during and after the election.

Ondo election live updates

As the governorship election in Ondo State gets underway, men of the Nigerian Army have blocked the federal Ilesha – Akure highway.
Fidelis Chidi blog gathered that motorists who are plying the road to Lokoja, Benue and other parts of the country are currently stranded along the road at the moment.
Also in Ore, the Benin Ore expressway is temporarily blocked by heavily armed security men.
Many travelers are currently trapped on the ever-busy road.
Meanwhile, as at 9: am, electoral materials are beginning to arrive some pooling booths across the state.

Ondo election: Accreditation, voting process commence
Checks by us at 9: 20 a.m on Saturday show that voting and accreditation process have commenced in the ongoing governorship election in Ondo State.
In some polling stations visited by our correspondent, some voters were seen checking for their names in the list.
No fewer than 1,280,580 voters with Permanent Voter Cards are excepted to decide who the governor would be among the 28 contestants.
Although 1,659,186 voters were registered for the election, 378,606 did not turn up to collect their PVCs.

PDP candidate: Eyitayo Jegede arrives polling unit

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Eyitayo Jegede and his wife have arrived their polling unit in Akure to exercise their franchise in the ongoing governorship election in the state.
Garbed in a white kaftan and black cap, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria arrived in company of his wife, amid cheers from the crowd.

Ondo election: Voting commences as SDP candidate, Agunloye laments inadequate security

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Dr. Olu Agunloye has lamented that security personnel drafted to Ondo State for the ongoing election are inadequate.
Agunloye, who voted at Baptist Day School, Erusu/Ikaramu/Ibaramu Ward 10, unit 08 at about 9.25am, however, expressed satisfaction about the turnouts of voters at several polling units.
He said, “From the reports I gathered across the state, the card readers are very efficient, and the voting has been peaceful, especially from my area.”
Checks by us  shows that contrary to the promise of the police that five officers will man each polling unit, many polling unit are manned by one police officer and one officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
However, there is no record of violence as at the time of this report.

APC candidate, Akeredoulu arrive cast vote in his Ijebu Ward

Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Rotimi Akeredolu has arrived his polling unit to cast his vote.
The governorship hopeful stormed his Ijebu Ward 5 unit 6 in company of his wife, amid cheers from his supporters.
At Ijebu Ward 5, unit 6 where the APC candidate will vote, there are 953 accredited voters.
Shortly after casting his vote, Akeredolu immediately walked to the house of the Imam of Ijebu Owo, Aminu Jetemidara.

Ondo election: By the grace of God, I will be victorious – Jegede speaks after casting his vote
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) has called on his supporters not to leave the polling units after casting their votes.
Jegede, who voted at 10:46am, claimed that there were ongoing plans to disenfranchise his supporters.
After casting his votes, Jegede and his wife sat at the polling unit while acknowledging cheers from the voters.
He said, “Some have been in the queue for three hours in different parts of the state and they have not been able to vote. INEC should not disenfranchise our voters.
“After voting, don’t leave your polling units. I too will not leave until the votes are counted.
“By the grace of God, I will be victorious.”

Police arrest hoodlums, party agents for disrupting polls

Reports from across Ondo State show that the ongoing governorship election is still going on smoothly, apart from the malfunctioning of card readers in some wards.
Our correspondent reports that as at 11.13am, the card reader has stopped working at PU28/01/04/005, Ikado II, Akoko North East.
However, reports from Lisa and Oke Aro wards, Akure South indicate that the exercise is going on without rancour.
However, in PU: 28/13/10/067, some party agents were reported to have been sharing money on the voting queues.
In PU28/16/11/002 Okelisa Okedoko/Ogbodu, Ondo West, some men have been reportedly arrested by security agents while trying to disrupt the process.

Voting process has been stalled in Akure South, Ward 2 unit 028 following the inability of the card reader to function.
Our reporter observed that the INEC ad-hoc staff are working to fix the machine.

Ondo election: Why I prayed before casting my vote – Akeredolu

Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress has disclosed that he offered prayer to God before casting his vote in the ongoing governorship election in Ondo State.
Akeredolu is currently slugging it out with two main contenders: Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP and Olusola Oke of the AD.
The guber hopeful, who had since cast his vote in his country home, said he hoped to win.
He called on the electoral body, INEC to fix the faulty card readers across polling booths in the state.
“I said a little prayer before heading out to vote. All in all, na #GOdWin. I voted today. I am hoping all registered voters will do the same
“The reports of malfunctioning card readers are streaming in and we urge @inecnigeria to do all it can to ensure no one is disenfranchised,” he tweeted.

Mimiko finally votes in Ondo West

Outgoing Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has voted in his ward in the ongoing governorship election in the state.
Iroko, as Mimiko is popularly called had to fill an incident form before he could vote as one of the card readers failed to capture his biometrics.
The incident happened at Ward 7, Unit 21, Ondo West local government area, where the governor cast his ballot.
Addressing reporters after voting, he said he would not give a full assessment of the exercise until he had been fully briefed.

Ondo election: Voting completed as electorates await results

As at 1:30 p.m., electorates in Ondo State are waiting for result in the ongoing governorship election in the State.
This is as voting has been concluded in many polling units in the state.
While there are reports of faulty card readers in some pooling stations, we observed that the exercise has been successfully completed in many areas.
Our reporter, who is in the state, reports that while some voters have gone home apparently for fear of outbreak of violence, other residents are still around waiting for the counting process.
Ealier, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party had called on voters in the state to stay behind and protect their votes.
Similarly, Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress, has urged his followers to remain calm while awaiting the final result.
He expressed optimism that his party would ‘coast home to victory.’

Ondo election: Unofficial results show Akeredoulu of APC in early lead
Unofficial results coming in from Ondo State in the ongoing governorship election in the state show that Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress is currently in early lead.
According to the result available from some polling units, Aketi, as Akeredolu is fondly called is leading his close challengers, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party and Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy.
