It has earlier been reported by The Punch that Oghenekevwe, was returning from church December 27 when he was knocked down at the Assemblies of God Church Junction, Alakahia area of Port Harcourt, by a police van driving against traffic. In a follow up, it was reported that the police, which earlier denied culpability, owned up and took responsibility for the death. Also, the policemen were reported to have been arrested and detained by the Rivers State Police Command, pending when investigations would be concluded. The victim’s father, Eyituoyo Edah, who also demanded the dismissal of the policemen, said the police authorities must bear the burial costs of his son. Edah said, “We have also asked them to pay us a N25m compensation. Is it because of the money that they are running away? Is that money their money? Can it replace the life of my son? “We want justice. I am not interested in what they (police) are planning to do. They are are using delayed tactics, which is uncalled for. If those who are supposed to take care of us are the ones killing us, where do we turn to? “The police should be responsible for everything my son was doing before he died and they have to bury him as well,” Edah added. The UNIPORT Public Relations Officer, Dr. William Wodi, confirming the report, saying the school authorities would pursue the case to the end.
