Hamisu Mohammed Gadaka told Fidelis Chidi blog that contrary to earlier claims that the explosion occurred at an estate, the explosion was actually at a shop near an estate along Gahua road.
According to him, “It was so sad we lost 27 people this morning in Damaturu as a result of suicide attack in one of the shops along Gashua road. Some of the people who were outside when the explosion occurred said they saw the suicide bomber when he was approaching and suspected that the way he was riding the bike seems suspicious, but unfortunately our attitude to such occasion is that people see things, suspect it but ignore it.
“I was actually in the house when I heard the sound of the explosion, and by the time I came out some human parts were already at the front of our house. We were helping when the security operatives arrived and asked us to clear from the scene of the explosion,” Hamisu told our reporter on phone.
He continued that when they left, the security operative secured the area and the corpses were evacuated to the Sani Abacha General Hospital in the state capital.
Another resident, Umar Kalamu told us that over 30 people were evacuated to the hospital, among them eleven (11) were already confirmed dead while six (6) others died in the hospital upon arrival.
He noted that other injured victims are in critical situation as at the time he left the Sani Abacha Specialist hospital in Damaturu.
