Hehehe....Workers of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC),
Owerri have called off their three months industrial action embarked upon,
following allegations of mismanagement and high handedness against the Medical
Director, Dr. Angela Uwakwem. The strike was called off as the Medical Director
has been asked to proceed on compulsory leave.
Leaders of the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP)
yesterday at a rally at the FMC, declared that the strike action has come to an
end as they directed workers of the hospital to resume work immediately.
National President of NUAHP, Comrade Obinna Ogbonna, while commending
the workers for their courage and steadfastness in the face of intimidations
revealed that Dr. Uwakwem, has been directed by the Federal Ministry of Labour
and Productivity, to proceed on compulsory leave while a fact finding committee
headed by a representative from the Ministry of Labour and Productivity will
commence investigations into the crises that engulfed the centre. Part of the
committee’s terms of reference include taking a look at the petition sent by
the union on June 3, 2015 over gross financial misconduct and high Handedness
against the Medical Director and any other relevant document submitted.
The Public Relations Officer of NUAHP, FMC Owerri chapter, Comrade
Samuel Nwokeji, stated that workers have been asked to resume work , informing
that an Acting Medical Director has been appointed in the person of Dr. Bennett
Ajuonuma, who was until his new appointment is the Head of Clinical Services
(HCS)
