Van Persie started Manchester United’s league match against Swansea on Saturday, alongside skipper Wayne Rooney in attack, but was taken off after he appeared to injure his right leg.
The Dutchman and his team-mates failed to avoid the second defeat of 2015, despite going in front thanks to Ander Herrera’s measured finish. Ki Sung-yeung and Bafetimbi Gomis struck for the hosts, to hand them all three points.
Van Gaal could not give more information on his compatriot’s injury, but stated that he “could not run anymore”.
United will be hoping that Van Persie’s season is not over, as they continue to fight for the FA Cup and a top-four finish.
