Naira swap policy: President Buhari may have acted on wrong advice - Festus Keyamo
The spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC), Festus Keyamo, is of the opinion that President Buhari was ill-advised with regard to his directive on the naira swap policy.
Recall that on Thursday, February 16, President Buhari in a national broadcast on the controversial policy, ordered that the old N200 banknotes remain in circulation till April 10, while the old N500 and N1,000 bills no longer serve as legal tender. The ensuing currency scarcity has led to protests across the country with several cases of ATMs destroyed, as well as banking facilities and property damaged.
Speaking on Channels on Friday night, February 17, Keyamo said
‘’My view is that the President acted honestly without intention to slight the Supreme Court. But he may have acted on wrong advice. I did not give that advice; it is not my responsibility. I don’t know who gave that advice. I want to say this openly because tomorrow, people will ask me where I stood at this time.”hesaid
The Minister of State for Labour stated that President Buhari’s speech acknowledged that there were certain matters in court and that the President believed he was playing safe by purportedly intervening to quell the growing tension across the country.
“He thought he was playing safe by saying, ‘Before you decide this matter in court, may I just provide some middle ground so that country burning, there are riots everywhere, so let me just try and provide some succour to the people, whilst acknowledging the matters are in court.
Now, if I were to advise him, I would have advised differently. I did not advise him. It’s not my responsibility; I don’t know who.”
Asked what his counsel to the President would have been, Keyamo said it would be for him to “comply strictly with the terms of the order of the Supreme Court, [which is that] all the old notes should circulate for now side by side with the new notes because that is the order of the Supreme Court.”
He added that by virtue of the constitution, “all authorities in Nigeria must obey the orders of the Supreme Court, “adding that anything to the contrary is “a descent to anarchy.”

Clergywoman, Pastor Laurie Idahosa, has said that many Christian leaders are narcissists.
The mother of three, who is married to Bishop F.E. Benson Idahosa, stated this via Twitter on Friday'
According to her, these narcissists use their power to control and manipulate people.
‘’My profession is full of narcissists; most especially because they successfully hide behind their religious titles and use that power to control and manipulate people, exonerating themselves of accountability. Once they are called out (rare) they gaslight and excommunicate.” she tweeted.
We will destroy commercial banks in Kano that refuse to accept old notes - Governor Ganduje warns
Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, warned commercial banks operating in the state that he would destroy any bank that refuses to accept the old N500 and N1,000 notes.
He made this known Friday, Feb. 17, during his inspection of palliatives meant for distribution to the citizens to cushion the effects of the hardship caused by the cashless policy, Channels TV reports.
“Any bank that refuses to accept old five hundred and one thousand Naira notes will be destroyed. We will not tolerate such disobedience from any financial institution operating within our jurisdiction,” he stated.
Governor Ganduje further disclosed that the space of the destroyed banks would be used for building schools.
“We will convert the space of the destroyed banks into schools that will provide quality education for our children,” he said according to the publication.
Governor Ganduje’s spokesperson, Abba Anwar, defended the governor’s statement, stating that the state government has the power to take such measures to protect the interests of the citizens.
Anwar said: “The governor is not making an empty threat. The government has the power to take such measures if it is in the best interest of the people. The governor is determined to ensure that the people of Kano State do not suffer any undue hardship as a result of the cashless policy.”

Tonto Dikeh has slammed her ex-husband Olakunle
Churchill for posting their son on his birthday to give the impression
he is trying to be in the child's life.
Churchill and Tonto's son King Andre turned 7 yesterday, Feb. 17, and Churchill posted a photo to wish Andre a happy birthday.
In the caption, he said he misses his son and hopes to see him soon.

son or contribute to his upbringing yet he comes on social media to give
a different impression.
She accused him of using their son to
chase clout. She then asked why he doesn't also post his daughter from
his first marriage.
She added that Churchill is just a sperm donor and she regrets choosing him as one for her son.
She
also revealed that despite being divorced for years, when her mother
died, Churchill found a way to get her number to send her a message, but
he has not tried to find a way to be involved in their son's
upbringing.
She also reiterated that Churchill never contributed
financially when they were married and that he cheated on her with his
current wife Rosy Meurer while they were still married. She doubled down
on her claim that he is into "Yahoo".
She also called him out
for calling her son a different name in his birthday post. She then
accused him of stealing her son's name "King Churchill" to give to his
son with Rosy.
She added that when he has a daughter, she wonders if he will name her "King Tonto" too.

Corps members handling BVAS on election day will be tracked – INEC
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has said that only National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members are authorised election officers to handle the Bimodal Voter Authentication System (BVAS) during the February 25 and March 11 general elections.
Speaking after a tour of the training centre for INEC’s ad-hoc staff or presiding officers, and inspection of facilities of the national collation centre at the International Conference Centre (ICC) on Saturday, February 18, Yakubu said corps members were mobilized because INEC can't just rely only on its workforce for the conduct of a credible and peaceful election.
He further revealed that corps members handling the BVAS will be tracked on election day. Yakubu said;
“Nigeria is fortunate to have young citizens like you. There is no way INEC can conduct elections without the NYSC. You are simply indispensable in the conduct of elections in Nigeria. We cannot conduct elections with our workforce alone.
“So we have to rely on you and other categories of staff. But you are going to operate at the most important level of the electoral system; at the polling unit levels because that is where citizens go and vote. All of you will swear an oath of neutrality.
“Your loyalty is to Nigeria and Nigerians and not to any political party or any candidate. You will be the INEC Chairman at your polling unit. You are the king at the polling units.
“You are the only ones that will handle the BVAS at polling units on election day. Take this job seriously. We are tracking you as well so that we can know who is holding which BVAS. Do not give this BVAS to someone else.”
10 states ask Supreme Court to set aside Buhari’s ban on old N500, N1,000 notes
10 states have approached the Supreme Court to set aside President Muhammadu Buhari's ban of N500 and N1,000 notes.
The state governments in the lawsuit filed by their counsel, A.J. Owonikoko (SAN), asked the apex court to declare the President’s directives in his Thursday February 16, broadcast as unconstitutional.
The lawsuit has Attorneys General (AGs) of Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara, Ondo, Ekiti, Katsina, Ogun, Cross River, Sokoto, and Lagos states as plaintiffs, while the defendants are the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), as well as the AGs of Bayelsa and Edo states.
The applicants who cited Section 232(1), Section 6(6)(b) and Section 287(1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended in their 12 ground application, stated that Buhari’s directive extending the validity of old N200 notes for 60 days and his ban on old N500 and N1,000 notes are an “unconstitutional overreach and usurpation of the judicial power” of the Supreme Court being that the case is already before the court.
They also claimed that their application protects the Supreme Court’s dignity and will in turn ensure compliance with its orders by all persons and authorities.
