he national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was concluded on Sunday. The gathering has produced 76 leaders to oversee the affairs of party for the next four years at national and zonal levels.
The convention was criticised on several grounds including the emergence of consensus candidates by way of threats and coercion. Thugs were also reported to have disrupted the process of the convention at the beginning.
Nigerians have also criticised the convention for producing party leaders with inconsistent political ideologies amidst claims that a significant number of the new leaders were strong members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Although the party said 78 positions were contested, only 76 names were announced at the conclusion of the convention in the early hours of Sunday. The party did not immediately clarify why two positions, Zonal Legal Adviser (South-South) and Zonal Publicity Secretary (South-South), were not filled.
