Gunmen Kidnap CMD Of Irrua Specialist Hospital

Staying with security matters, gunmen have abducted Dr Sylvanus Okogbenin the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Irrua specialist teaching hospital in Irrua, Edo State.

The attackers were said to have ambushed Dr Okogbenin’s vehicle at the Ramat park area of Benin City, the state capital.
Dr Okogbenin was on his way to Irrua when the gunmen accosted him.

Two security escorts who accompanied the doctor were reportedly shot and suffered life-threatening injuries while the CMD was whisked away.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers shot into the air to scare people away.
The state police commissioner says an investigation is already ongoing in a bid to apprehend the kidnappers and rescue Dr Okogbenin.
The incident happened at Ramat Park Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area while the CMD was coming to Benin.
Police Spokesmen, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said an investigation into the incident has commenced.
Chairman of Senior Staff Association of Universities Teaching Hospital Research Institute and Associated Institutions of Nigeria, Irrua branch, Comrade Emmanuel Igiechi, said the union would protest against insecurity in the area.
Comrade Igiechi said the abduction showed that the workers at the hospital were being monitored.
“This tells us how serious the security situation has become. It is a very dire situation we are in. The security agencies should strengthen their presence in Irrua and environs,” Igiechi said.
